Hi all,

I would like to connect my keyboard to my laptop via MIDI.

I have recently owned the latest version of Sibelius and I'd like to begin using it.

One of the things that I want to do is to play in the keyboard while my PC is capture what I am playing.

I new to this world, so I have several questions:

- How does the PC know in which exact position of the song am I? :?: Suppose that I am composing a song and I want to add some new notes in the middle of a track. How is this done?

- Is SMPTE used for this? If it's, what do I need to transfer that information to the PC? Is it done via MIDI?

Any help would be welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Arkaitz.

SMPTE is a form of time code. It was originally invented by NASA as a way to sync up all of the multiple camera angles from rocket launches. Now it is used to sync up all sorts of things, usually picture and sound. The basic information in a SMPTE message is Hour, Min., Second, Frame. For what you want to do, you will not have to use SMPTE. You shouldn't really have to worry about any kind of time code at all. I have never used Sibelius so I'm afraid I can't help out very much. Hopefully someone you uses it will answer your question. Good luck. Hope this helps a little bit.

SMPTE from what I understand is a sync that you can use with video files or cameras. If your mastering a DVD you would need to worry about it if your just doing keyboard recording or just midi stuff its not needed.
