Just curious ... what's your favorite keyboard lead sound and why?

Any clean monophonic lead that has an analog-feel and has slight portamento, and perhaps a few velocity switches for more expression.
A couple of feedback/vibrato/distortion-controllers to add more expression.
Fully distorted leads just sound like like screaming cats to me. They can be fun, but to totally rely on them? No. You cant play many different playing-styles with it, I believe. It often doesnt matter what notes you play, you still give the same message/feeling towards the listener with such a lead.
Whilst on leads that do not drown in distortion and are more 'precise' you have more controll giving a certain feeling by the notes you play.
Thats my opinion.

I very much like saw leads, mostly analog type.....like to put them through a dist pedal and wah-wah pedal sometimes...a lot of fun!

My favorite lead right now is Richard Andersson's lead. I've only heard The Inner Circle of Reality by Time Requiem, so I'm assuming he hasn't changed his lead any since then.

Andresson has never changed its lead, even from the days of Majestic. He is just trying to play and sound like Jens Johanssen himself.
to the topic: I like saw and square leads, and I like leads which sounds like guitar =JR lead from TOT and the Monster lead of Sherinian.

I have a few favourite's, I do like the analogue mono leads with very short attack/release, I normally set the ADSR to A=0 D=Max S=Max R=0 and I do like adding Guitar Amp modeling FX, Wah etc and I like a little touch of delay, reverb. I like only a little distortion nowadays on my lead. I also like the clean Minimoog lead sounds which Jan Hammer uses and the cleaner guitar leads also that he uses.
Still, my all time fav is still the Guitar Hero factory patch that came with the Yamaha VL-1 synth. I really wish anybody here who has one would make a little MP3 of it and post it here, its so awesome sounding....

i like my sunspot lead on my kurz. It's real cool. Some lead like sherinians which you can fiddle with to make cool effects on.
My favorites are the jens lead and jordans liquid lead

Hey, man why dont you post a sample? i'm curious....
Definitely Jordan's This Dying Soul lead. The lead on Honor Thy Father is very suitable for the song, I like that one.
Besides that I like Jordan's Only A Matter Of Time and the unison lead on The Great Debate (first there's a unison, and then there's a solo).
And I'm in love with Jordan's intro sound of The Great Debate (must be a modification of Korg's Espress Lead). I liked Kevin's lead and Derek's Trinity monster lead, but I don't like them as much as Jordan's leads. :)
BTW I 'reproduced' Jordan's introsound of The Great Debate, anyone interested? I will place it in Patch Exchange if you want.

If anyone's seen the new G3 dvd, I love the sound Malmsteen's keyboardist uses. It's smooth, yet it cuts through, and the timbre is dynamic.

Hmm... Haven't heard Jens Johanssen's lead in quite some time. But if what you're saying is true, hats off to Johanssen. I guess my favorite would probably be him then :)

Yep I like clean square for mellow sounds and soft modified organ sounds :)

I like chorused squares too. I do like Jordan's lead (as played on the keyboard solo in Live in the Budokan), and I also love the classic Rick Wakeman leads. The Wakeman leads don't change much in timbre, but he is always adjusting the portamento and envelopes, so there is a lot of interest. (and of course it's analog)

Thanks for all the replys. Very interesting. I wish I could point to one jens lead, there seem to be quite a number, ranging from a clipped overdriven saw wave which sounds like it's been compressed, to a some funky unusual textures out of the JV1080.
Best,
Jerry

Gonna have to go with the Liquid T lead, played on a Kurz 2600 once, and I could've played around with that for hours.
