ive been trying to get a distorted sound but when i use the distortion block within the algorithms it doesnt seem to do anything...what am i doing wrong...ior maybe someone could just give me a small example of how...anything, please!

The problem is that the distortion you're probably looking for is an amp based distortion while the distortion DSP block simply clips the signal.
In the Dist. block, hit edit.
Now, on the top left you have the number, it's either at 0 or +6 Db. Try turning up the db but remember to turn down the gain on the AMP! page so you don't just crank the volume in the output.
I think the distortion you're trying to get is, like I mentioned, an Amp sim distortion, for which you need KDFX.
What is the sound you're trying to get? There are USUALLY ways around some sounds *monster lead* but not others *Sherinian's Nasty CXR-3's Hammond*
Or why not put in a request over at http://www.albertorizzoschettino.com/~progsounds/board/

hmmm...yeah, the distortion i want is more of an amp distortion and i was thinking of sherinians when i was tryin to make it, but i dunno, im sure there is some way to produce it...im just...sadly limited with kurz programming.
thanks

Take into consideration that Derek's using Nord Lead synths right now which have a different colouring filters set for sure than Kurzweil. If you are referring to older works then Korg made the difference on that.
I'm just telling this as a guideline because 1) Dave and others proved that you're gonna end up with anything you want on VAST, 2) you're in good hands ;)
Best luck,
Alberto
Does someone make a stereo distortion pedal?

i was thinking of that...i have a boss vf-1 guitar effects processor which can go stereo, but my cords suck and i get so much feedback its unbearable, but yeah, i could probably use that and control it by MIDI...if i knew how. :)
Here are a couple of ideas to get some decent Kurz distortion going...
First of all, if you have KDFX, try the effects around number 768. I think 768 is "Tube Distortion" or something like that. The effects around that number are all the distortion effects available with KDFX. The algorithmic distortion algorithms are, in my opinion, totally useless, as they simply clip the signal (as has been mentioned before). For a similar effect, just blast your keyboard signal into your A/D converter and turn all the pre-channel gains all the way up. Hell, it might even sound *better* than the Kurz algorithms.
Otherwise, if you don't have KDFX (or even if you do and are looking for a unique new sound), try running the Kurzweil through a uitar amp or guitar amp digital simulator. Without getting into all the digital amp sims vs. the "real thing" here, I can tell you that either way you can get some pretty wicked distortion sounds out of either of those setups, if they are available to you.
If you have neither, I would (Don't kill me, Jordan!!!) recommend getting a simple guitar amp simulator pedal or something and running your Kurz through it, if only because in the end, it is probably easier to use, and you can run *anything* through it, not just your Kurz.
Just my thoughts!!
