Maybe we should make a thread about 'Commonly asked questions' and sticky it, Axiom... it would be really useful to be honest!
Anyway, as for your question... in one word: yes. I used to use an EV-5 for patch change while I was waiting for my FS-5U to arrive (damn took them 2 months to order in!) In terms of HOW you assign your pedal to do that, it depends on what keyboard you're using.

I already answered that question, lol. The EV-5 CAN be used to change patches, its just a bit annoying as its not really built for that. As I mentioned before, I had been using that for patch changes until my FS-5U came in (love that pedal too). For me, it was simple to assign as I use a Roland Fantom X8... Its simply System -> Pedal/D-Beam -> Control Pedal Assign -set to Live Set Up or Down (or favourite patch up or down) with polarity on standard.

sorry axiom, i tried using that thing but it cam up with 738 matches so i wasn't going to try!!
But on the same subject, can you change the patches on a Korg triton rack?? if i attach it to my Korg sp200 stage piano, so i can use the sounds on my pc2x can i use the pedal on the sp200 to change the sounds? i've tried looking through the manual but i can't make head nor tail of it. I think it does tell you somewhere but i can't for the life of me find it!! thanks

is not the pedal itself that change sounds...

I think a fairly comprehensive introductory FAQ would be awesome, if someone had the knowledge and time to write it. One section could be just a general "what's MIDI, what's a workstation, what's a MIDI controller, what's a rack, etc." portion. There are other documents available online, but I've never seen anything that is comprehensive and concise. The other could be more specifically geared towards this forum, i.e., "why is JR using the Extreme, how do I create a JR lead, etc."

sorry i meant could i change the triton controller settings in the module so that when i pressed the pedal on the keyboard, it sent a midi change message and cycled through my patches....

really? oh good. I'll actually try to look now. The last time i tried to look i gave up, the manual isn't a great deal of help, its really hard to follow. I'm trying to find out about synthesis and stuff, but it's taking ages. I did physics A-level and that should help me, but it doesn't seem to be working....

If you want to learn synthesis, I suggest you to give an eye to Synth Geek section of ProgSounds.. I also suggest to print and read Advanced Synthesis Technique for Modular Synthesizers (wrote mainly for Nord Modular but suitable for almost all synths) and the owners manual of ARP2600 that covers basics of subtractive synthesis.

yeah i started to look at the synth geeks section the other day, but i was in abit of a rush. I need something that lets me in slowly to synthesis, not throwing me in at the deep end! but yeah thatnks i'll have a look at those
