Hello all, I'm a studying pianist that has never owned a keyboard or anything that is remotely akin to such. I think it would behoove me to purchase one within reason to practice at night in the privacy of my own home, gig, and, at some point, record with. Now, could someone give me suggestions on good a good stage piano or performance keyboard reasonably priced (preferably close to 1000 USD but as high as 2000)? I've read the gear FAQ a couple of times, and my head is still spinning.

Since you are just beginning as a piano student, I would
recommend you check out the Alesis QS8. Weighted
keys are what I'd go with.

Thanks. I agree that weighted keys are my friends. I'm used to playing on Steinways at the college I'm at right now. I'll check this one out.

Thanks for the input. I hope these boards have good piano patches.

I use a QS8 and I can recommend it if you want good acoustic and orchestral sounds without doing so much tweaking since it isn´t one of the most tweakable boards around. The more synthy sounds are ok, but I tend to use other boards or softsynths for analog type sounds, or sounds that use a lot of effects. The key feel is great imo and the board is great value for money these days! There is a 8.1 and an 8.2 version out as well but to be honest I don´t what upgrades they have? I believe the newer ones have slightly larger displays...

I dont think he'd be able to find a QS8 for sale, it has have been out of production for a while after all, and was a harder to find synth to begin with. Besides, the 8.1 is better, especially over the 8.2, and is easier to find. I do know it has improved interface over 8.0 at least, and the 8.2 was actually a more affordable downgrade of the 8.1, with one less sound expansion card slot but now that the 8.1 is discontinued, you can actually pick it up for less than the 8.2... as far as I know all of these synths have more or less the same sound pallete with maybe some slight difference here and there. ive seen used qs 8.1s usually in the 500-700 price range... at that price you can pick up two of the qcards which usually go for 100 a piece along with it and still be paying less than you intended too. I find it more than adequte for me not that that says anything. but yeah I dont think getting the 8.1 would be a horrible mistake.
If you really want to spend a lot of cash though, you could get some version of the Korg Trinton, I know the LE is like 1200, other versions go up to like 3200 and every where inbetween research to find te one that fits your needs.

I played a Korg yesterday and a few Yamahas the day before that. It is difficult to decide what sounds good and what will get the most life in the end.

Try a Yamaha Motif ES 8 !
And then You'll have found your keyboard.......
It's a little bit expensive........
.....but that piano is unique......!!!!

I think you should take a look at our God JR's setup: double K's!
Korg and Kurzweil: one for synth sounds, the other for acoustic ones (the Orchestral ROM should be part of the price...you lose a lot without it (some friends' experience, I don't own any K2xxx)).
Greetings, Deceit.

Sorry Deceit......but I own a K2600 and also a MOTIF ES 8 !!!
And I have to say that, even if I'm in love with my Kurz, the acoustic
sounds of the MOTIF are a lot better !!!!
Even if you have the orchestral ROM !!!

Well, I know you own both :) I've been envying your equipment far too long :DDD°°°°° and I know MOTIF engine really rocks...but someone told me it's far too rich of options and you'll end up missing most of them to speed up sound designing and most of them are just nice additions and no essentials nor yamaha trademarks.
Di dove sei JackJens?
Bye :).

Played a Korg Triton yesterday. Good night nurse, it was beautiful. Now that I know the choices, I'm going to search them all out and play them and then decide. Thanks for the suggestions, they've all been great so far.
