Anybody know a controller that's comparable to the 88 key m-audio controller?

http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Keystation88es-main.html

It's just that the controller feels pretty crappy. Not sure what's up with that, but I wanted something that feels like a piano (or at least like a real, semi-weighted keyboard). Also, I've been trying to find one without any additional sounds on it.

Ideas, anybody?

$2500

If I had that kind of money to spend, I'd look into a Kurzweil :)

Thanks though. Didn't even know that company existed.

Comes in all size's. The 88 note Piano weighted version is $599 and the 76 note Semi-Weighted synth action is $399. You can also get a 61 & 49 note semi-weighted action too. also a firewire audio interface can be installed into them too which costs around $199. If I were getting a controller, I'd get the 88 note version of this. They also have metal case's instead of the plastic kind on other type's of USB controllers.

These were launch at the NAMM 05...

The Doepfer costs 750 Euros and I can recommend it, because the keys just feel great and it's built very sturdy. The hammer-action alone costs 570 Euro, just if one may wonder about the price.

I've been thinking about getting a Fatar Studiologic SL990Pro - might be a bit cheap for ya, but it's got everything - keys, pitch and mod wheels, and........oh....that's it.....

Holy crap...is that a joystick on there? Wow, this might be the winner. How realistic do the keys feel? That's one of my deciding factors. I definitely don't want to deal with a crappy piano feel for the next x years.

The Doepfer looks...interesting. I like the fact that it has no buttons on it, but I NEED a pitch bend at least if not a wheel. Also, it looks heavier than Fat Bastard and I definitely don't want to deal with that. Thanks though!

As far as the Fatar, uhh....how should I put this? It's cheap for a reason, Grey. I don't know. I'd highly suggest making sure you like the feel of the keys and the buttons before you lay down the $500 smackers for it. Although, if I had a choice I'd probably take that over the M-Audio one.

Is the SL990 Pro *that* much worse than the old SL880? Cos that had rather a nice action to it, I know a couple of people with them and I always enjoy playing on them. As for the M-Audio one, you realise you've shown the Keystation 88ES (synth-weighted action) and not the Pro version (weighted action) I assume? The latter has a much better action, it's not perfect by any means but it does the job...

I'm kind of liking that Doepfer. I like the construction of it. Very Nice.

Do rack mounts have all the controler inputs on the back? If I had a K2500R rack, would it have inputs for breath controler, four switches, and a couple of CC?

You know what they should make as a campanion to rack mounts; they should make a midi unit that has all the complimenting controlers that the board has. So for a K2500R rack you could buy a side unit that would have the pitchbend ribons, the wheels, the sliders, etc.

I've been wondering what the CME keyboards will be like and when they ship them to the UK, I'll probably check'em out at a shop (which is the most important thing to do really)...
I've always loved the action of the Fatar weighted keybeds but I don't think there electronics are great, I bought one a little while back and it failed on me after a couple of weeks, the on switched stopped working which is kinda important cause I could'nt use it...and it was a lot of hassle taking it back to the shop (40 miles away from where I live). Whatever you get, just try it out first and try to buy local.

that's the semi weighted one... It's basically synth action weight with a bigger key.

You need the M-Audio Keystation Pro 88. They are fully weighted hammer action keys. I actually just picked one up today at GC (got an amazing deal too). I've played synth action keys my whole life for the most part and I can already tell that my fingers are going to be getting a lot stronger. My muscles are aching like a bitch from about 2 hours of scale exercises.

Plus, the best thing about this board is that it is a real full master controller. It's got a shitload of buttons, sliders, and knobs on it that are assignable to anything. I got it as a replacement for my N5 that died a few weeks back. I'm going to be using it with a laptop and some softsynths and Gigasampler.

this is the board you want:
