View Full Version : Enigmatic Scale?
Hello fellow JR fans and musicians......I've been experimenting with the "Enigmatic scale"...a new tool for me...very wierd/odd sounding scale...quite a different tonality in comparison to the common scales...Dorian, Lydian etc..
I'm curious, has anyone used it before? if so, what's your take on it? ...I may be wrong, but it sounds like Mr. Rudess uses it sometimes to achieve funny/wierd/cooky sounding sections...haha

When I hear it I have the feeling that something should be moved to gear talk.
(sorry I hadn't heard of it before).

Nice try as a junior moderator, however in this case, the talk is about a scale in particular, not a peice of musical equipment. It stays... ;)
And yes I did make that scale too ;) **

Dave,
I'm very familiar with the enigmatic.
When I played with Michael Angelo, I was very much
in awe of how he achieved those wonderful
Allan Holdsworth signature runs. Check out his
tune entitled "The Jam Game." We played lot's of
it on that particular track.
I'm happy for your new discovery.

Mmm, I didn't mean this topic should be moved. I was just kidding due to a lack of sleep last night which slowed down some synapsis in my brain. So I related enigmatic with a moderator issue, which btw I'm glad it's your issue and not mine :D
When the synapsis was done, I googled "enigmatic scale" and found some explanations of it. It was hard to play it at the beggining though, but I'll be practising it as it sounded cool.

Hi Frank,
I actually have Michael's "No Boundaries" CD...yeah I can hear a lot of "Enigmatic" sections on "The Jam Game"...but it doesn't sound like Michael implemented it thru out the entire song...well I may be wrong.....
Joe Satriani used it entirely back in his "Not of this Earth" CD on the song entitled "The Enigmatic"
Rock on!
