Since the early 80's, this has always been one of my favorite bands for catchy melodies and rich harmonies...The keyboard player is a big influence for me too. It's nice to see them getting the big star.

Which keyboard player, Jonathan Cain or Gregg Rolie?

Jonathan Cain...... 8)
This whole band is amazing and I grew up with them in the middle/end of the 80s...
Unfortunately, Steve Perry and Steve Smith are gone., so there isn't an original line up left nowadays...
But from the other side, there's nothing to complain about Deen Castronovo and Steve Augery...
But why the hell don't they come to Europe???

Jonathan Cain.
Although, Greg Rollie is also a really good player. I like Jon's Piano Style and Greg's B'3 style of playing.
Interestingly enough, Steve Perry showed up for the dedication. My good friend was there and shook his hand and chatted with him for a few minutes.

Yeah, I was curious which had influenced you ;) I always liked Gregg Rolie's playing. I really enjoyed the earlier, more experimental Journey and always wanted to hear what Jonathan Cain would sound like in that format. I've always respected his playing, but never caught them live and never really got to hear him with a little more freedom in his playing. Those really poppy years had some great playing in 'em, but it really wasn't as improvisational as the early Journey.

There are some really interesting ideas on those early songs. I have been listening to Time Cube, the first CD which I think is all Rolie playing. He's done some really interesting things with the early sound textures. Although, he also did some poppy stuff when "The Storm" was around back in the late 80's. I also noticed that none of the "Raised on Radio" players were there...drummer Michael Baird or Bassist Randy Jackson (who was probably too busy with American Idol). I didn't expect to see Robert Fleischman or Steve Perry. Ya never know who will show up at those things. Especially in Hollywood

Excuse me, but wasn't Larry Londin the additional drummer on "Raised on Radio"????

Must admit Journey are probably my equal fave band with DT (alongside Rush, Genesis, etc.).
I'd love them to come over here to tour, but if not, I'm thinking of going over there instead as a once-in-a-livetime kinda thing !
There's some great organ playing from Jonathan Cain on the Journey 2001 live DVD in "La Raza Del Sol" - I didn't realise he could play quite as fiery as that, as normally he plays really cool piano and pad stuff...
...Mr Neal Schon, one of my all-time fave guitarists, is the soloist in Journey !
Faithfully,

I have a friend who is a huge fan of Journey and Steve Perry, and she was saying that he actually showed up for the awards ceremony when Journey was announced 'inducted' (what the word is) to the Walk of Fame.

He was there. He actually spoke at the ceremony along with Neal Schon and Ross Vallory.
Here's a link to the acceptance speech...
