Im not a n00b musician, but I'll be damned If I know anything about keyboards, I just got my first (roland rs-50) and was wondering how the hell do I split it as to get 2 or more sounds going at different octaves on it, the guy at the store said I could but hell I cant figure it out, it might have something to do with the "performances" settting on it but Im just confused here, anyone have experience with roland keyboards at all? anyway thanks in advance.

Did you try consulting your manual? If you don't have one, you can look for a manual of your board on google. Hope that helps! :D

Maybe the keyboard isn't polyphonic.

The keyboard is definitely polyphonic, and split IS a function... Basically, to use the split function you have to be in Patch Mode and use the 'Key Mode' button... press it until 'Split' has lit up (or dual if you want to layer the splits). When modifying the patch, 'Split Point' will allow you to choose where on the board the split will occur... obviously the upper tone you select will be assigned to the upper register and the lower tone to the lower register. I hope that helps a bit... there is so much more you can do to modify each of the tones you select though... read your manual lol (and just bear in mind I have had no previous experience with the RS-50 so if some of my information is slightly outta wack, sorry...)
