I posted this at the sonikmatter forum, but I know not all of you read it so I'll crosspost it here...

Hey all,
I've got a following problem: My C3 button doesn't have any velocity change; always when I press it, the sound comes on a full volume, no matter how hard I press it. It's pretty damn annoying.

I don't know why it is so, it just occured once when I came back from my band rehearsals. I don't remember hitting it to anything hard but I'm not 100% sure.

Is there anything I could do other than take it to a repair shop? The reason why I ask this is because I've got no Kurzweil warranty shops near-by (I bought it from Germany, I got it like 1000 euros cheaper there, which is about the same in dollars) so it would cost some money.

Thanks in advance

I dunno what it is, but the same thing recently happened to the E5 key on my SP88X.

bitdumb @sonikmatter posted this:

It appears to be the dirty key contact problem, I don't recall if anyone ever posted a DIY step by step to cleaning it, might want to seach here and the Kurz list.

I know people have done this themselves, I just don't recall exactly how.

Perhaps some one else will chime in.

good luck

Can anyone here help?

Its a key contact issue. Could be dirt, but it likely needs replaced.

I think he understands that there's a problem with the key. It sounds like he's looking for a step-by-step method for removing & replacing a key. Even if you didn't intend to remove & replace the key, knowing how to would allow you to clean dirty contacts.

I installed some rom upgrades. As part of the instructions for installing the rom upgrades, there was instructions on how to take apart the case. When I had my Kurzweil's guts all exposed, I looked at the keys. Didn't look that complicated, but I wouldn't know as I didn't even dare to touch something that wasn't broken. Maybe you could fine some instructions for memory or some other internal part & use those instructions to get the case opened & then just wing it from there.

Good luck, John.
