Hey keyboard/midi gurus...here's what I have...A Roland XV5050 and I'm using an old Roland Keyboard and a Roland PK-5 to play the sounds off of the XV5050.

What I want is to be able to do is play bass sounds on my footpedals (PK-5) and keys/string sounds on the old keyboard, then change the footpedals to be keys afterwards. Very similar to how Geddy Lee has his rig set up.

Can I do this with what I got or do I need more equipment? If I need more, what do I need?

Thanks.

I dont see there being a problem doing that.

There are a couple ways of approaching this, here is one way that I can think of.

[keyboard]midi out) >---->(midi in[PK5]midi out)>--->(midi in [xv5050]

Keyboard = MIDI CH 1
PK5 = MIDI CH 2

XV5050 set up your tones in Performance mode

Assign the tones that you want for the keys to use MIDI CH 1, assign your tones that you want to the PK to play to MIDI CH2. Be sure to make sure your RX MIDI is enabled on all the Performance parts that your using. The XV Edit app from Roland might make things easy for this. Save the settings to USER 001. Create your next performance with your keyboard parts moved to MIDI CH 2 for the PK pedals, should be a simple changing MIDI 1 to 2. Save this to USER 002.

Plug in a basic switch pedal to the back of the Rack unit and assign the swith pedel to do bank up. Then press the switch pedal when you want to change from the USER settings. You may come into parts were you will want to repeat the same USER settings over and over to USER 3,4,5,6 etc..

Thanks. I will try that configuration this weekend. One question though, what kind of foot controller would you recommend to scroll between the user groups. Or can I use the PK-5 to change the configuration because it is a foot controller.

Any simple generic switch pedal will work. I think you can do that with the PK5 as well. It might be a bit fancier where you have to assing a Program change to a pedal or something like that. Not too familiar with that unit even though I'd love to have one.

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum.
