I'm really loving them. They sound LIGHT YEARS ahead of the Peavy KB/A 100 that's sitting underneath them. Not to mention the fact that they are self-powered and have a frequency response down to about 50 hZ, meaning I don't need 1) an external amp and 2) a subwoofer. For the money they are an incredible pair. \m/
I love this emoticon. \m/ \m/ \m/ \m/ Hehehe...

I've already known this picture from a previous setup photo topic in the old forum, but it still makes me laughing :)
I don't have that many pictures of me and my gear. Someday hopefully within the next year I'll get a digital camera. You guys have so many boards that I felt like I needed to augment my setup a little.
The great thing is that color board is actually tuned. I've been playing with the same big band for probably 10+ years. I figure if I get crazy enough or good enough (or some combination of the two), I might surprise everyone and break that little colored thing out at a concert. I remember a concert where some horn player broke out one of those whistles with the little pole that slides in and out of the end. It was great! If I ever do that, I'll make sure to post a picture and a copy of the recording (the band records almost all concerts).

John: Once my bandmates surprised me with a "keyboard" like yours(I mean not the Kurz :D ) for my 18th birthday. They told me that when they have seen it in the supermarket, they have known that it is the perfect thing for my birthday. As our drummer has a little plastic drum(he got it for his birthday too), and he takes it to every concert, it's hangin' from a stand, they wanted me to bring my new "gear" to every concert. But when I first heard it's sound, I gave it to my 2 year old niece. I still miss the stuff very much, it was beautiful red, and had 16 keys... Ahh...
Great stuff :-) I also found one of my first boards, perhaps I will use it for a funny little solo - too bad it hasn't got MIDI outs... but it has a build-in high quality dolby surround speaker 8)

Are you saying that if you cross-breed a Kurz with a Korg you get
a P(i)SS-30??
maJ estY
10-28-2003, 03:48 PM
Well yeah, bastards aren't that good in most cases... And I don't like Yamaha synths, so... :P
That PSS doesn't look too much like the Korg... I think the Kurz has been sleeping around a little... Looks more like a baby S08 to me. I mean, Kurz and Yamaha are really compatible. But Korg and Yamaha.. that could never happen.
Oh my god, last night I had the PSS-30 laying on my mixer... they're both yamaha, but different types of gear... what will happen... perhaps a casio board, or even more evil... a guitar
I don't think the Kurz has anything to do with that. If a Kurzweil board was involved in this affair the PSS-30 would either have an alpha wheel and 32 wheighted keys. And even if it's very small, it would break your neck while carrying it...
I'm sure it weighs at least 50 lbs. It's probably encased in lead, just because.
Silly Kurzweils and their obesity.

Left: Roland JP-8000 atop Roland Fantom, Quik-Lok stand
Right: Yamaha CS-5 atop Roland D-5, Ultimate Apex stand
Center: Casio MT-240
All that's hooked into a Behringer Eurorack MXB1002 mixer going into the computer, and those are brand new Audio Technica ATH-M30 headphones I just bought yesterday :) I'll soon be replacing the Quik-Lok with an Ultimate IQ-3000 and putting the D-5 on my main rig too.

..can't really remember :P
A friend of mine who is keyboardist told me that this lead is a mix of a very smooth SynBrass
and SawLead... i did it on my arranger keyboard (it's a GEM) and, with the exception that i can't
control so well delay, it sounds quite near and great! ;) i use it quite ever as lead, because sounds
great and i can't set distortion or similar on my keyboard... it isn't REALLY a synth.. ;)

The B4 really ROCKS It is in my opinion as well the best hammond imitation arround, hardware or software. I really love those presets..
I just haven't got a laptop available to use it during rehearsels and on stage.. and lap tops are so expensive.
I got a leslie and thinking about buying a cheap hammond clone!
Something like the oberheim run it through a hughes and kettner rotharsphere in to the leslie... And ROCK ON!!!
Omega Monkey
03-13-2004, 07:37 AM
Why would you have a Rotosphere into a leslie? That's like running your Crybaby into your Moog filter. Now, I could see just a nice tube preamp and that might be nice (make sure you dump any internal reverb or other effects first). I have actually used my dbx mic preamp on my Rhodes and it sounds really nice. I run that into my stereo DOD phaser and then my DP-4 for reverb/tremelo/delay/whatever else. The Rotosphere is pretty cool though. I mean, Roine uses one after all! I have (had) a Korg G-4(?) Leslie simulator, and there's also one on the DP-4. Man, I really need that G-4 back, I miss it! It was like $190 to! Whoever currently has it is not being very forthcoming about it
BTW, Shreddy, what is that Derek style keyboard you have in your set up, and why exactly to you have it like that. It seems like it would be very hard to play sitting down (getting in the way of your knees) and be too low for standing up. Does it like flip up and lock in place when needed or something?

Oh, and that X-5 looks measly, even compared to the D-50 and that's a pretty lightweight board itself. Not bad though by any means, they have some cool sounds. And the Juno is definitely a nice touch. Those things are so thick and buzzy and warm. No presets though, which is why I like my JX3P/PG-200. I dont suppose you can save a single patch to tape or anything can you? The JX can save banks to tape as well as my Korg EX-800. I've been meaning to start archiving patches on MD, I think that would be a very convenient method for patch storage for an old synth like that.
Anyway, one day I will get my apt cleaned up and borrow my mom's digi cam. I have kind of a Wakemany 4 way set up (not nearly as bad ass of course). Rhodes and Hammond (not a really great one) at right angles with Fostex recorder in the middle, and then other boards on the other 2 sides of a (more or less) square. My stereo is to one side, with the speakers at either end of the whole thing. And then all my guitar/bass stuff at one end of the room. Pretty sweet and functional too, my best friend is an architect and he helped me design it.

what do you do with korg kaoss pad??
i've seen it but never working....

The board angled at the bottom is a JV80 its nothing that I really play that much. It works down there at that angle, its not meant to be played that much because I have to take a lower stance to comfortably play it. Live its just the XV. The Juno has no tape dump option so I'm stuck with tweaking tones as I use it. The Kaoss Pad is in the effects loop on the mixer so I can run anything through it, mostly it was purchased to enhance the Juno but I found it has a couple neat effects for the XV as well.

So, you are a Yamaha man, eh?;)
Oh well, thats life. To be honest, I never use the patch memory on the JX anymore. I just start with sound A1 (String 1, one of the hardwired presets) and just tweak it as needed with the PG-200. I really should start saving some of teh sounds I come up with though, as they're very different than the stuff I was coming up with in the first few months I had it. I also need to go through my Alpha Juno and find patches that I dont care for to replace with the notebook full of patch settings I have which are generally much better. I came up with some really nice Wakeman and Banks style leads for that thing that sound great with some phaser and reverb.

Hi all !
i agree, Deceit, AX1 is so cool!
my gear is less up to date than many of yours and i posess no Kurzweil
i play on a Yamaha Motif7 with the DX7 plug in
a Korg N364 and the X5DR expander for concerts
a Yamaha SY55 (no fm, but great filters)
and a Roland AX1
i also have 2 yamaha monitors, a Washburn bass guitar and two guitars
under my bed, i keep a Yamaha pss480 (my only kb with portamento until i bought the motif :) ) and a psr 12 in their boxes, but one day i'll put them on a stand and play "A Change Of Seasons" on them :)
hear the results ? http://www.aching-beauty.com and http://flabonde.free.fr/mp3

There is now Korg x5 (as controller) and Roland JV-1080 (bought it few months ago) in my gear.
Korg´s pitch-wheel´s spring broke up few minutes ago and that´s because it is duct-taped to keep it center position.
Also third C-key is little broken because it is far louder than the other keys no matter how gently you play.
Maybe it is time to get it repaired, i have had it almost for year.
Next thing to buy is definately new controller for JV, and it will be Yamaha DX7 II. Great keyboard action, very strong and nice FM-synth too :)

Nice setup Anobiudb!
The DX7II is a great choice as a controller, but note that it does not send the full velocity range, so you cannot play the sounds at full veloctiy! It send up to 117 instead of 127 i think.

I remembered it was only DX7 that could only send up to 117 and DX7II had velocity all away to 128. But anyway it would be great synth action controller. All i need after that is good piano controller and more stuff into rack :)

I have a DX7s which has the same MIDI specs as a DX7II and it doesnt not send full velocity, even if the manual says so (i also played a DX7II once, it was the same tehere). DX7 Version1 sends from 1-99. You can still play well with it (just adjust the volume of the module a bit), because it has great action and can select patches very fast (you can even put your favorite numbers on the buttons, so for example if you press 3, patch 93 in your JV could be selected).

Apex rulez :) too bad you can't put the upper board at an angle.
Actually you can, but you have to be careful.
I set up my JD-800 at an angle by lowering the top set of bars just enough to give a few inches of distance between them and the top of the stand. Then I set the back of the board on the top of the stand and the front on the bars. A little velcro on the top and some tape on the bars really makes it a lot sturdier than it sounds. I'll send pics once I get them back from our lighting guy.
Cheers !

Hey all,
You guys all have very impressive setups.
My setup inly includes a Korg Triton Pro-X 88 key synth, a Yamaha DGX-500 88-key, and a Kurzweil k2600xs 88 key.
Just thought I would put my two cents in.

Alright, this stuff is temporarily in the living room until I can make some space in my room for it... so please forgive the primary school projects up on the wall from 9 years ago...
My beautiful X8...with my WK3500 on top and the Behringer in the corner... (DAMN those stupid projects! I would take them down but mum won't let me)
