Lord is a big influence on my playing, and part of the reason I love Hammond B3 organs. I'm not familiar with the new guy.

That's exactly the same I would state on that issue! ;-)

Deep Purple's new Hammond player is Don Airey, former Ozzy Ozbourne keyboardist, if I'm not wrong. I saw him life and he really rocks! He did an amazing Keyboard solo including a version of Starwars theme that kicked my ass!
Nevertheless I think he cannot replace Jon Lord who (for me) definitly personalized Deep Purple. Jon just played exactly what a song needed (saw him with DP four times). Personally I don't like the Sound of Don Airey - the Hammond gets so damn lost in the mix - both on the Album as well as live!!

I absolutely love Jon Lord.

I visited his home town in the UK really nice.

I would say his is probably my biggest influence on rock keyboard soloing and the heavy distorted keyboards of Jon Lord running through a stack of Marshalls..

I run my Polysix through a Marshall JCM-900 and it cutts through guitar-like soloing, playing Jon Lord solos is a big hobby for me and hell lotta fun

For what I've heard I'd go for Jon Lord.
He's the king of distorted B3 sounds!

Don's done some really cool things including the key parts on "Bark at the Moon". I've always liked him as a keyboard player, but it seems like he's never been given the kind of credit the bigger players get. Jon Lord is legendary and definitely made an impact on the world of B3 players.
If you get a chance, check out Don's website....http://www.donairey.com/
Be careful your speakers aren't up too loud. It starts playing as soon as you hit the site !
