Surfing the net searching for information on synths, a question rose inside my head:

If I take a patch made on...A Motif. Will the patch work on my Fantom?

The patch is usualy made out of the sampled ROM (or something) inside the keyboard, and every keyboard has its own ROM. So if I create a patch on the Motif from samples that can not be found on the Fantom, will the patch work, or should I get the samples I used and place them inside the Fantom?

I hope the answer is yes, because if not.....OuCh

thx!

You can't take the samples out of the internal rom, unless you use an external sampler. Both boards must have the possibility to read, write and edit samples. You can sample an instrument (but it must be dry, without FX, otherwise it would be very hard to capture a sample)...but it's really hard. So, in terms of "patches", no, you cannot.
You can actually sample in compatible formats, but it's really hard to get good results. What I suggest you is: both workstations are romplers and work on quite the same parameters (Oscillators, LFO, Filter, Amp, Pitch...). Write them down, and try to emulate them on the other board...
Before adding FX, always check the result is as close to the original as you can.
