The SP500 is a "Stage Piano", and it's main purpose in life is to be a live instrument for (mainly) traditional piano sounds. You'll get a couple pianos, a couple electric pianos, a couple organs, and occasionally they'll throw in other useful (but not very high quality) strings, choirs, or basses.

The sounds aren't bad, but they're not great either. Korg pianos are generally a little brighter and thinner, but that might be a good thing, as some people prefer that for cutting through the mix in a live setting.

Basically, what do you want to do with it? If you want a light, portable keyboard capable of sequencing, layering, and with lots of different sounds, the SP-500 probably isn't the best keyboard for you.. on the other hand, if you want a solid stage piano, the SP-500's not bad at all.

Your mileage may vary.
