I'm a Toto fan, I played Africa and Hold the line with my band in a School Festival. Anyways, David Paich use a Motif and a Triton.
Bye! :)

He used to use a SY 99 on stage, from the sound, I think it forms a huge part of his sound on that era.

The CS80 for the horns and a GS-1 for the FM marimba stuff on Africa. I''ve covered that (a long time ago).
But what I'd like to do someday is the synth break in Rosanna. Lots of layered polyfusion modular on that studio track. That was more Porcaro than Paitch. Delicious.

/me huge TOTO phan
ALso a big fan. What break do you mean in Rosanna? Maybe I can help you, I play it in my band.
I have a nice patch for Korg M1 with synth brass like in Africa or the Dune-Theme (also by toto).

Count me in with the masses.
Great keyboardists! Great tunes.
That Jeff Pocaro played a mean groove.
I always was partial to "Pamela"

A great song, which we played yeeeaaaarrrs ago.
I had long hair and Coen/Nolan was a very tiny man. He could hide himself behind the leg of a chair... :?:

I did not dress like Pamela. I just happened to like THE SONG.
That's it...nothing else.
Seriously, I wonder why they never place warning
labels on those Geritol bottles.

Toto, Hydra, and IV (the 3 that I have) are all amazing, and especially IV. The keyboard sounds on IV esp are really great. I would love to hear a remaster of that. Do they have a remastered greatest hits with a decent amount of stuff on it? I hate the old school style greatest hits albums with like 10 songs.
Anyway, I taught myself all the chords to Africa, so I can play that one pretty well. I use my JX-3P for the nice pad chords. I would something with PCM or FM for the marimba stuff. I think there's a flute layer in there too. That solo is one of the coolest solos ever, both in sound and in the actual notes themselves.
I was born in the (very) late 70s, so I pretty much grew up with stuff like this on the radio. It really makes you wonder why there isnt any GOOD mainstream music these days, when back then they had stuff which was really amazing, and yet still popular. Toto was a great example of that and especially the Police, whose whole catalog is just amazing.

Please, don't remind me about this...
I've burnt my fingers so many times in that period, you won't believe it...
And...
They put warning labels on those bottles...
But I take them off... :P
Wait...
It is tuesday. Enjoy your Bingo evening, "Pops".
