I was just reading this topic someone wrote about a broken
G# key
so here's a very wierd thought that came to my head
i have a Roland XP-60 which has 61 keys

So...... I was wondering if there's any way i could add up some more keys
is there any device or MIDI stuff that can make that possible

You'd need a whole new board! or at least a new frame... lol you'd be building your own board from scratch literally.

you'll spend less money selling your board and getting a xp-80!!

I'm betting you can just get a separate controller keyboard (with no sound patches) and connect it via MIDI. Ruddess controls the Karma via MIDI only.

M-Audio has some pretty good ones:

If you really want to keep your current board and just want to have more keys, I'd also go for a MIDI controller (just what Zorbas said).
If you were just wondering if that's possible, I'd say that it's just not worth it. ;)

Zorbas hit the nail on the head, and this is exactly what I'm doing right now with my own setup. I'm using a Kurzweil SP88x and it's wonderful voices, but when I want to play the old voices off my Yamaha PSR730, I switch to MIDI mode and off I go - I play my 88 key Kurzwil and control my 61 key Yamaha. Just make sure you aren't transposed on your 61 key when you do this! ;)

Well, just glad I actually had some knowledge that could benefit at least one of you.

Even after someone explained it to me (dunno if it was on this board) I still can't tell the difference between a filter, LFO and an envelope.

LOL
I guess that's something we have in common

I don't even know the exact full form of " LFO "

The keyboard of the M-Audio is really bad. I wouldn't spend $600 for that.

I've always been a firm believer in "you get what you pay for."

It's just a controller, no sounds. And I've forgotten which Magazine (one of those Future Music, or Computer Music type mags) called it the best MIDI controller ever.

All I've ever heard about M-Audio stuff untill now has been great. You're the very first person to say soemthing bad about it. Can you actually explain why you think it's that bad? I'm looking into buying one and I'd really like to know if there are negative aspects I should consider.

It's all a matter of preference... I played a Keystation 88 in a local music store the other week and was very impressed with the feel, it's on my "to buy" list (as in fact is a Yamaha S03, albeit because the action of that is at the opposite end of the spectrum, the action is so light that it's great for a lower 'board for hammond-esque playing!). I've heard of people who don't like the action, sure, and I'm not a classical pianist, but it's a nice board IMO and nothing can touch it for the money.

Zorbas, M-Audio stuff is generally great, very reliable, good value for money... what Kirby was refering to was actually the key action of the keyboard, not all the functions etc... I'd recommend you try one for yourself before you buy, you may like it or you may hate it. Personally, I like it...

At the M-Audio products tour in Hong Kong the guy who was showing it said the touching was pretty much like a regular piano. I ended up not trying it at the end so I don't know if it's true or not. But a piano action keyboard is exactly what I'm looking for, plus all those buttons with presets for programs I use (like Cubase and Reason) really spark my interest.
I've got a 55 key yamaha controller (CBX-K2) but it has limited functionality and programability and the action on the keys is like that of a toy piano.

I'll go for a test try next time I'm in HK.

Yes... Weighted Action is literally a MUST IMO for live performances... I can't stand having to play on synth actioned keys...

Speaking of which, I finally got the final $500AUD I needed to by my own X8... no more clippin over to my mates place to use his nice board!
