I'm about to update my rig and I ended up with either Roland XV-5050 or Roland JV-2080. Your opinions? Is the XV-5050 worth the extra few hundred euros? And how are the JV80-EXP-cards compared to SRX-EXP-cards?
XV-5050: 739EUR
JV-2080: about 400-500EUR (used)

XV-5050.
USB compatibility, easy editing, new technology, good samples, better exp cards. Way better IMHO. And if you could possibly save some extra money, go for Fantom XR...there are good prices on that these days!

I totally agree with you. Go for XR if you can.

If you had to choose between the two you suggested, I'd also recommend the XV. As for the expansion boards, Tusker (here in the forum) explained that the JV boards are not really much better than the SRX cards, because the JV cards have 8MB ROM and the SRX have 64 (or even 128?)MB of RAM.
The quality is the same, maybe the number of patches is higher when you buy the SRX cards. But I guess that you get all good sounds on the JV already.
Anyway, if you don't know where to spend the money, go for the XV. ;)

I bought the XV-5080 and the JV samples are available on the SRX modules (of which I've bought two). The SRX modules also have some extras on them. And yes, they hold alot more than the JV modules.

I think I'm gonna go for the XV. Fantom XR is way too expensive for me at the moment, but that's also on my shopping list some day :P. And how about the SRX-cards? I'm gonna get Complete Orchestra, that's for sure, but what about the others? Which are best suited for metal/prog?
Thank you all!

Well, if you're into 70's prog, then the Ultimate Keys will be a good choice.
And, as an owner of CO, congrats on your great choice, that card is full worth of money.
