Greetings all!

(attempt #2 at posting this - first time I lost my internet connection right as I was finishing up! :x )

Some questions regarding the "Evening with.." cd...

1. Anyone here lucky enough to have been there? Describe the venue, stage (small, big, any backdrops, ect) I'm a visual person and I like to be able to picture the setting :D

2. Was Jordan playing the Kurzweil or a "regular" piano? I can't tell, but it really sounds like a piano.

3. What sparked the laughter at the beginning of "Truth"?

Thank much!!
Jaime

Hi,

Haven't been there, but Jordan played a real Grand Piano

I was there. Jordan played the Kurzweil and a grand piano, a Steinway 9 footer I believe. He was on stage left, Petrucci stage right, both seated. The performance was at the Helen Hayes Theater in Nyack, a standard proscenium theater with about 1500 seats or so (I'm guessing - theaters don't like to say exactly how many seats they have). The show was sold out as I recall.

Originally, my wife was going to do the CD cover and booklet, and so we took some pictures backstage and at the rehearsal that afternoon. If I can find them, I'll post a couple here. (There were no photographs allowed during the performance.)

Unfortunately, I can't recall the details of the show well enough to say where the laughter came from, but it was probably a response to some comment by Jordan, as he introduced the songs and did the only speaking on stage.

That's awesome Richard! Danielle Rudess had the idea right?

Danielle Rudess had the idea right?

I'm not sure about that. It was Danielle's idea for Jordan to do his solo "4NYC" performance, and she produced it, but I don't know who instigated the "Evening With..." show. I believe Danielle produced that show too, however.

Could be, but I don't have the recent release version, just the original proof disc.

OK, here are the pix I was able to find, 2 from the dress rehearsal and 1 from backstage. I've gotten used to Jordan's shaved head, so these images are a bit of a shock. I hope you enjoy them.

Odd - I'm looking at it right now in my previous post. I'll try reposting it to my server.

OK, I've reposted it, changed the name to lower case, and changed the links in the previous posts. Try it now.

Really? How weird. Can anyone see the third photo?

Aha! The original photo was for print, and the JPEG was still in CYMK format. Now try it.

Damn computers.

I'll see what I can do.

I did shoot some video of Jordan playing with Rick Wakeman at the NYC MoogFest last Spring that Jordan has somewhere....

BTW, if you ever have a chance to the see the Moog Movie, there are some scenes shot at that show, and apparently Jordan's in it, briefly.

sometime ago, a friend of mine showed me a version of the album where jordan and petrucci made some comments before and after each song. i think petrucci mentioned that his(or jordan's wife) produced concerts for the theater and the show was to support the arts in the theater(sort of a beneficient show). can anyone confirm this?

sometime ago, a friend of mine showed me a version of the album where jordan and petrucci made some comments before and after each song....can anyone confirm this?I can confirm that there's a bootleg of the show that included the between-song chat from Jordan. The content that wasn't included on the original release of Evening With...was made available through the now defunct dreamtheater.mit.edu (Lines in the Sand) site - I think Cloak had something to do with the site at the time? However, since some of that material has now been included on the official release, I don't think it's reasonable for those bootlegs to circulate around any more.

That said, the song intros were, in many cases, very interesting and entertaining, leading me to think that it would be very cool for DT to do another Rotterdam style show - and give JR a mike! Of course, they'd have to play non-metal songs to achieve this. ;)

In my defence, while I did download the parts of the bootleg that were made available at the time, I also bought Evening With... the day that it was originally released through JP's site.

John Petrucci gives a few comments too as he did before The Rena Song. It's a great show. I hope they will do something like that here in Europe too in the future !

Thanks for posting the pics! That had to be a great concert. I wonder if they would ever consider doing it again?

On a side note regarding the issue of hair - IMHO, when JP cut his hair it made him look 10 years younger, while when JR shaved his head it actually made him look older. (personally I liked him w/hair :P ) Just an observation :D
