What would be a good amp to get for practice and medium sized gigs? I own a Kawai ES1, which really isn't that great for the music I like to play - no pitch benders or ribbons :(- I'm planning on doing a gig in a school this December, what do you guys recommend?

Well for keyboard I chose Fantom-S but you were asking about amps so...

I'd go for a Carvin keyboard amp myself:

Jaja, just an amp, the poll ios just a curious type of question. Carvin keyboard amp? Is there a specific model? Also, is it a good idea to hook up your keyboard to a guitar amp and keep it on a clean channel?

I'm planning on the Carvin KB1010 myself, but from what I've read the whole line is good.

I would advise against going through a guitar amp on the clean channel. Keyboards have a lot wider frequency range than guitars do, so typically if you run a keyboard through a guitar amp it's gonna get a lot of the bottom and high ends lopped off. This is why small personal PAs are also a good choice for keyboards, because they cover the full frequency range.

I own the biggest Carvin keyboard amp.

Carvin= Great sound when everything is tweaked correctly, and you get a better price on gear that loud than you can find anywhere else.

Actually I was confused about that too lol... the amps question and then a poll about keyboards... I haven't voted, tho I have a Roland Fantom X8 and wanna get the Kurzweil K2600X...
[leaves to vote for the Kurzweil]
Amps? I'd like to know about a good keyboard amp to get as well... something thats not gonna leave me broke for a good few years after getting it and the K2600X....

I own a peavey KB/A 300. It's extremely cool (nice crisp sound and VERY powerfull, I haven't yet gone past 5 out of 10 on the volume scales and trust me when I say that my band is LOUD on rehearslas). They don't make it anymore, but its substitute, the KB 5, seems to be even better! I'd seriously consider getting it. It isn't very expensive either, considering it's capabilities, that is...

The current Fantom is the Fantom X. The Motif ES and the Korg Triton Extreme would probably nice to compare as well. In your list I like the K2600.

A keyboardist list of possible amps should include Barbetta and Motion-Sound among others. Try them all out.

Why don't you just get studio monitors? Some nice mackie's would do the job but I don't know how well those do for live performances. I just like having stereo instead of mono usually. But then again I don't know how monitors are in live performance.

I would not do that because they're very expensive and are very delicate. And I'd NEVER take them live since they are not designed for that. They are not really designed for rehearsals either and a good amp will be better, more durable and more practical for that use. If you want stereo you'll just have to pay for two amps,, in most cases (although that motion sound stereo amp looks pretty cool!).
