I just purchased a Roland XV-5080 rackmount synth. Does anyone have any experience with this? If so, is it a good buy or should I have purchased an Alesis QS8.2 (I don't need the keys, just the synth module) or something else synth capable with good inherent sound patches? I'm doing this all by digital transfer so I bought light pipes - is there something else I should buy to go along with it? Any input is appreciated!

Its indeed a good buy, extremely fat sounding analog lead.

Got the XV-5080 in this evening. OMG - I could spend the rest of my life playing with it...! :D I've got to get some other things setup (CDROM drive for dumping waveforms into the SIMMS), figure out how to MIDI through it without screwing up my vocals and guitar recording setups, get the software communicating with the module so I can start building tones, add the Orchestral SRX patches, etc.

Just sitting there trying canned sounds I came up with 4 excellent progressions... none of which I recorded since I was having too much fun dinking around... :D

Needless to say, I'm a happy camper and just wish my day job included playing music. :?

PLEASE keep the Roland XV-5080 ans do NOT even entertain the thought of giving it up for an Alesis Q anyhing (IMO). You have a great module with great sounds. Keep it (as you can tell, I am not an alesis keyboard/ module fan)!!

Peace. 8)
