yo. anyone like Metallica in here? i know theyre not perfect live, and theyre recent album is a dissapointment to many, and cant really be compared to the other music we like to listen to, but they have made some very rocking and inspiring music. anyways, my curiosity about this was sparked due to my excitement of the fact i am seeing them this friday. they put on a very powerful show. "So enegee...PAWAHH!"
my favorite album would probably be and justice for all. anyone else?
I dont really like lars much, but i thought this was cool (http://www.mikeportnoy.com/media/pics/celebs/mplars.jpg)

I used to be really into them. My obsession has died down over the years, but I still think that Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and Justice For All were outstanding albums. Great riffs, great drumming, great vocals, great lyrics, great solos...just great metal music. Some of the best there is. The other albums are all good as well, but none really compare to those 3 overall as far as I'm concerned.

even though there was only one person who responed when asked if they were into metallica at all, i thought i'd post anyway that i went to their show last night and it was awesome! godsmack opened for them. i really dont like them much, and didnt expect much from them at all, but they actually werent that bad. but metallica....now that's another story. they were excellent, and they were more "on" than i expected too. the last show i saw of them, they didnt seem to have it together that well, but last night was great. rob (the bassist) is crazy. he did a bass solo, and it was something like ive never heard before. i was only about 7-8 rows back, so we were pretty close. lars is crazy as well. i think something is seriously wrong with him  kirk was pretty on as well, and he did a guitar solo and was right in front of me. it was so cool. my friend next to me caught his pick. ooooh... and metallica fans are crazy as well....even moreso than some DT fans (*see disc 2 budokan!!*) the played a lot of songs i didnt expect them to play too. they didnt play all "radio popular" songs. they played all of the black album minus of wolf and man, and dont dread on me. and encored with one, master of puppets, nothing else matters, and seek and destroy. all in all it was a really good show. my neck, voice and ears are still recovering, but its all good 8)

Actually, I'm a bit of a 'Tallica fan too although I don't listen to them very much now...
I agree that Master of Puppets is a bloody brilliant album, and S&M too.
Does anyone here like St Anger? I loved it, even though heaps of people didnt.

Iīm a Metallica fan. I liked Saint Anger.... yeah I know the album is not the best, but has some good things there.
Metallicaīs forte is live performance. Rob did a solo? thatīs news for me... last year he didnīt soloed... maybe the guys asked him to do so... or he feels more comfortable with the band AND the fans.
King_Ellesar, was this the set list of the concert you went to?:
Blackened
Fuel
Sad But True
No Leaf Clover
Holier Than Thou
The Unforgiven
The God That Failed
St. Anger
Fade To Black
Creeping Death
Fight Fire With Fire
--------
Wherever I May Roam
Nothing Else Matters
Master Of Puppets
One
Enter Sandman
--------
Disposable Heroes
Seek And Destroy
If thatīs so... wow! Disposable Heroes is not a song they play much.... and itīs nice to see No Leaf Clover in the set list... I thought that James would be a bit reluctant to play The God That Failed (knowing that that song talks about his mothers death) now with that heīs changing a bit his actitute towards certain songs.
Iīve just checked their tour site and it seems that they are rotating a bit their setlist.... thatīs a good thing. Iīve been talking about that for YEARS in the Metallica Club Forum... seems that Lars FINALLY listened to that petitition.

St. Anger had the potential to be really good. There were some neat riffs throughout, but they didn't make it everything that it could have been. If they actually produced it a little bit, and didn't record riffs one at a time before the songs were even done and then cut/paste everything in ProTools to make the actual songs, it could have actually been a very rockin' CD. As it stands though, it just seems like a demo from a local garage band, not a studio album from one of the premier metal bands.

many fans would love to hear the infamous Presidio tapes....those songs were recorded before James Hetfield entered to ReHab. who knows if some of those are better than the ones in st anger.

they were a great band back in the 80's before fame warped them soundwise and as people to the point of no return

Metallica was the first metal band I listened to and I think that I would not like DT if I didn't like Nothing Else Matters when I was 7 years old or so. :)
Their older albums are OK, although I don't listen to them anymore and their black album was the last good one IMO.

MetalliJedi, yeah that was the setlist. it was great! the bass solo was really funky, he did this thing where he put his left arm over the strings on the neck, and slapped with both hands and that created a cool sounding beat. he also changed around some settings on his footboard and it sounded like an electric guitar, his playing did too. i'm glad he's with them.
i liked st. anger somewhat on the album. i agree with liquid shadow. but those songs sound awesome live, just could have been better on the album.

I like some Metallica - their melodic stuff is pretty good. Songs like Unforgiven I/II, Nothing Else Matters, Fade To Black, Turn the Page, One etc. Not a big fan of their more recent stuff or their thrashy early stuff though.

Maybe sounds weird, but I mostly like "Load"!! Realy bluesy and it has a cool vibe!

me and my friends were wondering the other day about what it would be like if they did a tour together. even though DT is quite more advanced than metallica in many ways, it would be interesting to see. it's probably a little farfetched but im sure it would bring a huge wave of new DT fans.
