Okay. I'm not a newbie to computers, electronic equipment, music, synth, or musical/recording equipment.. etc.. but I have never done much with MIDI. Just about everything I own has MIDI capability, but I really haven't unleashed any of its potential. I listen to and create MIDI files [guitar pro].. but I'm looking to use that 5-pin connection in the back of my synth...

I searched the forums, but no specific answer to my question. If someone could give me a nice in-depth answer, or some relevant links or threads to read through, I'd be most appreciative.

I own a Roland RS-9 and XP-10.. I mainly use the RS-9. Exactly what can I do with MIDI other than hook it to the computer and have a program score out my music for me.. I'm not sure of the capabilities that MIDI has .. but I hear the possibilities are virtually endless.

Thank you all in advance for any replies. You guys are always the best.

I see everybody's looking, but no one's replying... I know it's a broad subject.. if someone could point me some good relevant links, that'd work out too.

you need a midi /joystic wire + a nice soundcard like audiophile or emu...
and a sequencer software ( sonar , cubase....) hook the wire to your soundcard joystic port and voilą that's the basic
for basic tutorials and knowledge this a helpful link to start with very all you need to know about midi
