I think Korg Triton LE can be found at a price just a little bit higher than that, and it seems like a good start..... what do other think?

It's a great beginner's board.
Only one FX insert but hey, at that price
with all the features and soundset, it's a steal.

Be sure that you try as many keyboards as possible before you decide to buy one.

Before I propose a board, you should tell us which kind of keys you need. You're a piano player, so I guess that you want a full-weighted keyboard...

Yamaha S08!

I think it's great for the money (great sounds, great action etc.)

For USD 1000 I should start with buying a rotating keyboard stand.
After that you can start saving money for a keyboard.

I'd hunt for a used Korg Triton or Yamaha S80 myself. The Korg has a wider variety of sounds and better filters as well as a sequencer, and probably an all around btter keyboard. The S80 has a full 88 note weighted keyboard, more filter types and much better piano sounds, but no sequencer.

Being a piano player you will want to have something with weighted keys.

My suggestions is getting either a used Yamaha S80 or Roland XV88 they might run a slight bit over 1K but in either case your going to get a good synth with expansion options and 88 weighted keys.
