Hey everyone, i just bought a Roland JV - 1010 sound module. It's all working nicely and everything is kool. It mentions in the in the manual that the "User" bank and the "Synth, Orch, etc." Banks are not re-writable (obviously!). But it also says that the the Preset banks ("Preset-A, Preset-B, etc.") ARE re-writable. So i'm assuming theres a way of picking sounds from the other banks to go into these. But theres not explination on how 2 do this. It's probably being dosey, but if some1 is remotely familiar with this module or any similar Roland modules could help me out that'd be awsome 8)

Take it easy, Matt

I think you might have that mixed up there. Typically the USER area is writable, and the PRESET area is read-only (non-writable). That's the way it's been on every Roland synth I've ever used and I'm positive the JV1010 would be the same. Any expansion cards you have loaded (e.g. Synth, Orch, etc) are also read-only.

Now, to answer your question, to copy a patch from the read-only area of your synth into the writeable area, just WRITE the patch, and when you choose the location, choose the writeable area.

So, to save patch PRESET-B 076 into patch USER 113, you would do the following (I'm paraphrasing because I don't have a JV1010):

1. Switch to patch PRESET-B 076
2. Invoke the WRITE or SAVE function to save the patch (consult your documentation)
3. When asked for the destination patch, enter USER 113

After you've done that, you can tweak patch USER 113 all you want and you will be able to save it in that slot.

You should have gotten a disk with the module with a customised version of Soundiver on it for all patch library functions. I have a JV-1010 with the software, but no manual, so I don't know if there is a way to move patches around without Soundiver. But I don't think there is.
Only the user bank is changeable like Drusillus said.
