So, my band just received and had our first practice with in-ear monitors. WHOA. They are *awesome*. I never want to go back to any other way. We've all got seperate mixes (at practice, at least...probably at shows some of us will have to share mixes since it depends on how big the mixing console is and how many AUX sends get taken up by effects), and it's so wonderful not only to be able to hear things exactly how you want to hear them, but to not have your ears ring from loud guitars and cymbals at the end of practice. I especially appreciate this as a keyboardist because I always seem to get lost in the mix (or at least from my ears' point of view...the rest of the band always complained I was so loud through the PA...must've been where they stood at practice). Anyway, now I can hear myself and they can all turn me down or whatever...it's SO awesome.

We're gonna play our first show with them on Thursday night, so hopefully that'll work out because I always hate stage mixes through floor monitors.

Have any of you ever tried using in-ear monitors before? We got like the cheapest Shure wireless ones (the Shure P2TRE2-H2 PSM200 Wireless Personal Monitor System (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=live/search/detail/base_pid/270237/)), but even so, they are such an asset.

Just wanted to share my excitement and see if anyone else had thoughts on them.

Hey Man,
I have a set of PSM400s and I love it! I can't get my bandmates on board with it, but I can't live without them now. I am primarily the singer, so they pretty much make or break the performace for me (regardless of whether they should or not). The biggest problem I have is with sound guys that either can't figure them out or refuse to use them. Besides my motif, definately the most important piece of equipment I own... congrats it's hard to go back to wedges.

wow, i'm surprised your bandmates don't like them...everyone in my band flipped out when they heard how good they sounded at practice! it's so nice to be able to play comfortably and still hear yourself.

we'll be using them tonight for the first time at a show, so hopefully that will all go well. even though at practice we use 5 seperate mixes, at this show, i think we'll only use 3 for ease of soundcheck: one for bass/drums, one for guitar/vox, and then one for me (everyone in the band always complains that i'm too loud...haha  ). but anyway, i'll let you all know how it goes with the in-ears' maiden voyage, so to speak

wish me luck!

I used InEars at the last gig - the problem was, only the drummer an me used them on a small stage. Normally I have a normal monitor and era plugs against the noise. But this day I just had the InEars, so I had my ears ring from all the noise on stage (because our *** singers always have to be THAT noisy on stage to hear themselves...) and had problems with my own mix. Nevery again.

But it could be wonderful if everyone has own special fitted InEars and you really don'T hear anything except your own sound :-)
