With all these polls latley i decided that ill post my 1st poll. Hope it works properly.

Lets face it JLB isnt the best live (from what ive seen and heard), but he sure isnt the worst.

If he wasnt the front man for DT, who would you like to see up front?

Russell Allen

About LaBrie live...on the last 2 tours he's improved massive amounts...I wouldn't say he is bad at all live these days. Awhile back he certainly wasn't the best live, but he's waaay better now.

Yeah in know, and by no means am starting a campain against him. I agree with you after all.

Theres a poll here talking about who could fill JP's shoes.....i decided to do one for JLB.

Christina Agulera all the way.

Honest.

Am not kidding here.

Either her, or one of her friends.

Give prog rock a good revamp and drag it kicking and screaming out of the dark ages. And anyway, the current format has been done to death. Prog rock is now out of date rock. Apart from maybe Crimson, who arestill trying out new weirdness, but some of that borders on rubbish, and the rest borders on sounding like Tool. It's a fine line.

Come on, imagine if pop music was good again. Where peeople where creative and could play well.

I think that half the beuty of prog is that its not commercialised (well not in OZ anyway)

theres no way getting a leading lady like christina would help the commercial cause.....could you imagine 12 yr old girls melting evertime JR or JP unleash a spell binding solo.......it would never work.....No offence to JR or JP.....

Then again they have that effect on me  :D

I think JLB was really amazing live on this tour...face it, how many people could sing a three and a half hour set with the vocal melodies that Dream Theater has over their material and have that same power in the upper range as he does ? I don't know many.

Dang I'm getting tired of this business of playing "Fantasy Prog Rock" but because you put Freddie up there, there's no way I can resist. Damn you!!!!

For the record, I think the ONLY ones you could even THINK of replacing are LaBrie and Myung. For example, though Petrucci would benefit from more "Slash-like" tendencies emotionally, it's still a non-issue - JP, JR, and MP ARE Dream Theater, that's just the way it is, it would be a DIFFERENT band without them. It would not be Dream Theater. And even JLB, who many fans have problems with, I would be nervous to replace. Though JM is phenomenal, I think he is the only one you could truly alternate with, and maintain the DT-ness of DT.

I think a better question, if you're really going to go all the way with this, is, what members would YOU like to see in the ultimate supergroup? And EVEN at that, I'd STILL have JR and MP.

Jeez guys, let's not oversaturate ourselves with these polls.

I honestly think that people forget that Dream Theater was really MP, KM, JM, and JP, listen to how tight those first three albums were (WDADU, IAW, Awake)...that was Dream Theater...now it's the same, except Labrie is the voice of Dream Theater - it's what makes Dream Theater what it is, it's Labrie (a big part at least), but JM is just as much a part of DT as the rest are...he has been there from the beginning and the lyrics he's contributed is a fine example of how he really can't be replaced either.

You'd also be pretty shocked at the amount of music he's written for them. He has a bigger impact on their sound than you'd think...

You're absolutely correct, I am not referring to writing, only the bass playing itself, I should clarify. Which is still at quite a high level... And, again, DT is DT, and I do not advocate messing with their lineup!

lol....you can't take myung out of dt even for his bass playing lol...you can't take them all out...they're DT in it's best form...you can't even joke like that

I'm not sure I'd listen to a DT song with vocals if it was not JLB singing, also he is amazing in live, just bought Live at Budokan, 5 years in a livetime / live in Tokyo, and he is amazing every second of them, I just can't get enough ! :)

Well, I`ve recently watched Live at Budokan and I must say he impresed me, I`ve never heard him singing so well live!!1. I`ll never replace him, but if it ever happen (hypoteticaly) I would choose Daniel Gildenlow (yeah I know, call me a fan boy.....)

Come on man,

even MP pays him out on the tokyo and 5 years dvd (when u listen to the commentry)....what the hell was that.... i think were his exact words.

But live on the SFNY i am the 1st to admit...he blew me away

remember guys, im not saying het rid of members, im saying who ELSE could pull of the job of being DT front man

On some parts, yes. He wasn't off ALL the time on the Tokyo video, there were just flubs on certain parts, which was why MP was poking fun at him if I remember correctly.

How many guys in their early 20's could run around onstage under hot lights for a few hours night after night singing the parts JLB had to sing on that video and do as well as him? Very few. Keep in mind all the conditions surrounding the performance...being on tour, long shows, hot lights, pretty difficult vocal lines, young age (=not mastered technique completely yet), being tired out from running around...considering all of that, he did absolutely fantastic on the Tokyo video. That stuff also makes his performances with less mistakes all the more admirable.

Why? She's got a very talented and versatile voice, and it'd be interesting to see what she could do in such a genre... certainly more than got the range to cover JLB's stuff. And, all told, in tight black leather...? :D But then, I'm coming in as someone who wants to work with Edele Lynch (ex- of B*Witched) on a future project as she also has a very special voice (and is hot) :D

In JLB's defence, he was awful on the OIALT tour / CD / video, but he was still recovering from a serious throat infection he got after Awake while on holiday in the Caribbean with his wife. That's why FII is not particularly challenging vocally, too. But his voice has really been improving since then, the LSFNY album showed a remarkable return to form and I've been nothing but impressed with his power and versatility since. Still can't pronounce all those words, though ;-)

You can't replace LaBrie, period.. Though my next favorite singer would definitely be Russell Allen. In fact, I just bought The Oddessey and I'm listening to it right now.. There are some great songs on there. The Oddessey itself is a phenomenal song. Rock on SymX!

In other news, if something happened to LaBrie, or any of them, I would cry and be forever upset, because DT's lineup is absolutely perfect right now. I can't think of anyone who is better at anything for DT than the current guys.

I voted for Freddie Mercury , coz if he was still Alive HE would sound good with D.T

But You Should have also considered Putting Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson
He's also a good choice

But Hey Who needs Singers like Bruce Dickinson , JLB and freddie mercury when you have :? CHRISTINA AGUILERA :x :?
