Has anyone here had any experience recording
in HD; either in Pro-tools HD or used the MOTU
HD 192?
What do you guys think?

I am a extremely satisfied user of MOTU products.
However, I never use it on Pro Tools before as DP3 can compatible wth pro tools.

I too am a MOTU user.
I've had the 2408 MKIII as my interface between my computer and
my digital mixing board. It's as clean as a whistle. I do notice
a little improvement over 44.1 when going to 96k when recording
a vocal.

For me I felt that MOTU should blew away Pro Tools. Its just they are the indestrial standard.

Gary Kahn, owner and chief engineer of Pegasus
Studios in Chicago, hired me back in August to
lay down some Korg Triton piano and strings
for a pop rock vocal project. At the time, he had
just gotten his new Pro-Tools HD3 system.
What I was truly very impressed with on the final
mix was the clarity and warmth of the vocals and
the nice punch on the drums. I think we've come
a long way digitally that we're just about on par
with analog.

Yeah, we've reached the point that any recording system will give you a sound that people would pay gobs of money for a decade ago, even on a little PC or Mac. But the new 192K systems are sweet. Pro Tools did it first, and has been doing its share of advancing recording technology, but anything from Logic, DP, Cubase/Nuendo or Sonar will give you fantastic sounding demos. I do have to say that nothing blows anything else away, even tho I will say Pro Tools HD is one heck of a sweet sounding system. It still basically comes down to the guy doing the recording.

MOTU's now got the 896HD. Looks like the same interface
as the old 896 but now supports 192khz recording.

And the new 896HD is much cheaper than the other interfaces.

Man,
Think about the amount of storage capacity necessary
to record a five minute, 24 track tune at 192khz.
Un oh, looks like it's time to buy a DVD Rom burner!
