Steve Fortner absolutely loved this board and
gave it a stellar Key Buy review based on his
extensive work with it during live performances.

He especially liked the acoustic piano and organ
selections, relaistic mega voiced guitars and classic
Moog-type synth sounds. He did mention that he still
preferred the Kurz organs for more bite and the
Kurz strings.

He liked working with the on-board sequencer but did
not enjoy the type of connectivity to a Mac via USB,
the small screen and that digital I/O is an option and
not standard.

Overall a great review.

Actually we got the Mac connectivity and remote stuff worked out after the review was done. All is well.

How about the cons?

Yes OSX is supported. Was that your question?

I mean what is the downside of the synth in the review?

His cons were-
Small Screen, no digital out standard, no OS-X support.

But you stated OSX is supported?

Yes it is. He was reviewing the ES a few weeks before final production units came in. He didn't have the OSX driver disk that actually ships with the unit. These are also on www.yamahasynth.com

I like the fact that you can truly use it as a surface
controller unlike the Motif Classic.

For 6 months or so, the Motif ES will be the all in one synth to beat. I will say that if you have a Roland Fantom, Korg Triton/Studio or Karma, or original Motif that you don't have to feel tiny in comparison. In fact a fully blown Roland or Korg will probably give you more, short of the marvelous PLG synth cards for the Yamahas which are fantastic. But if you're in the market for a synth workstation right now, the ES is the logical choice. Fortunately Roland Korg and Kurzweil won't take this lying down and will produce some monster synths soon to match or beat it, and I'm hoping the Korg Oasys workstation will be forced to appear soon, as well as the next generation of Kurzweil. So we'll all win, as the keyboard makers will give us some huge powerful synths for us to slobber over.

Synthguy,
Do you know the history of the Oasys keyboard? It was actually built years ago. Some of the technology developed from the Oasys product ended up in products like the Prophecy, Z1, Triton and the Oasys PCI card itself.

If I remember correctly,

if it had gone through production the cost would have
been astronomical...something like $12,000.00

A lot of that technology is present ialready n the current Triton
with the Moss installed.
