View Full Version : Help - K2500 doesn't boot!

I don't know what I've done... when I wanted to turn my K2500 on the start display came (VAST K2500...), but now the screen doesn't show anything!
I tried to adjust the contrast by holding Enter and turning the Alpha Wheel, the contrast changes but it's an empty screen. You can hear the Harddisk running, and the following knobs are lighted: buttons 5-8 (above the faders) and Song-Mode - It looks like KB3-Mode, but there's no sound.
...I don't know what to do, any suggestions??

Take out the batteries...underneath the keyboard, you'll find a door that holds 3 AA batteries. Leave them out for a while then turn the unit on. If your PRAM was corrupted this should reset the unit. If it still doesn't boot, you've got a hardware problem. Good luck,

I've done a hard rest now, it was still possible to get into the boot menu. The diags found a problem with the *remember* left/right-clock in the sampling unit, but after the hard reset everything works fine again.
Luckily I saved my data the day before, so most of my stuff could is still there, I hope this doesn't happen often ;-)

Thanks for your help!

Oh dear, I thought Kurzweil instruments were keyboards...

- harddisc?
- Enter?
- Alpha Wheel?

:)

/me also wants a Kurzweil :D

Nothings perfect but all things concidered it sure beats the crap out of the competition.

I find that loading corrupt files (from the net) can cause problems.
For the most part it's smooth sailing.

You only really need one of these to
do whatever you want!

Now, with the release of the 2661,
you can have it all in a much smaller package.

Do you know if the K2661 will come in other versions, too?

One version only. Sampling, p-ram, vintage synth and piano blocks are an option but it comes with 64MB of RAM.

What about a Masterkeyboard-Version of the K2x00? Just the keys and the controllers, especially the ribbon controller. My breaking neck would buy the K2600 as a Rack, but my fingers don't want to miss the keys and the live-controllers of it :-)

That would be the PC2x, wouldn't it? Well, minus some obligatory, stock Kurzweil sounds.

Well, it hasn't the ribbon controllers, and that's what I'd care most about.

You could get a Kurz. expressionmate ribbon controller.

Of course, I just thought it would be cool if Kurzweil would release a keyboard with everything already build in.

You don't need the ExpressionMate with the K2661, just the optional Ribbon. Its about $60.

Thanks Mike, that's good to know.
I wouldn't want to be without the 8 real time sliders or the large ribbon

Isn't the optional ribbon the Expression Mate?

Mike Martin

No, the ExpressionMate is an box that has all kinds of functionality (arpeggios, MIDI splits, Merging, breath controller input, assignable buttons and foot controllers) that also comes with the ribbon. The ribbon can be purchased by itself for the PC2 and K2661 for $60 MSRP.

I see! Thanks for the info.
Someone posted a picture of a K2661 with ribbon and I thought that's it's the same, because there was even a cable to be seen. I thought that the box of the EM is somewhere behind the keyboard or soemthing like that.

Ho wdo you install the ribbon? Just lay it on the keyboard or do you fix it?

Mike Martin

It comes with velco to attach it and keep it from sliding around.

To clarify, if you want to add a ribbon controller to a non-Kurzweil product you have to get the ExpressionMate. I've got it hooked up to a Motif ES8...very cool!

I'd like one for my XP-30, but it isn't available anywhere.

Would be funny to use it on the K2500 as a second large ribbon - ynow you just need a song in which you can use both of them to bring any sense in it :-)

Wait, so do the PC2 and K2661 have that phone-jack looking cable (kinda like a cat5 jack) on it somewhere, or what? Because the "rack" module for the EM was the part that really upset me about it.

The PC2 (keyboards) and K2661 have the "phone" jack for the ribbon controller.
