Hi everyone

In the next month, i will be recording an album with my powermetal band. We are 5 in the band ( 1 guitars, 1 bassist, 1 drummer, 1 guitar/vocal and 1 keyboard ). I am the keyboard player and play with a motif 6. My questions are about my keyboard sounds.

1. Is there anyone who ever recorded with a motif?
2. What is the best way to programs my sounds ( parametric eq, chorus, reverb, rotation, etc) to have a thin line of frequency and don't sound like a big wind in the mix.

I'm waiting for yours advices
Thanks to everyone

Tell us more about how you are recording. Some thoughts...

I think that good pres and direct boxes help support the tone of the keyboard. Try to get a range of devices (tube, solid-state, very colored, less colored) for variety.

One keyboard often sounds shallow. Try alternate processing (an analog stompbox chorus for example) and alternate sources (a beaten up miked acoustic piano) to give the cd more depth. Also mix up the dsp's you use (within the synth) where possible.

Never play a four note cluster when 2 will do. However, consider double-tracking some parts.

Consider different ambiences (direct-in, direct-in with processing, amp your keyboard and mic the amp, etc.)

Tighten your patches up before recording, (reduce the attack/decay times, reduce the brightness and reduce the velocity sensitivity if applicable)

Try to use good quality outboard gear or plug-ins for reverb and delays. Most synth efx sound cheap on cd's.

Get a Producer. Listen to him/her.

Get an Engineer. Listen to him/her.

Good luck,
