Hey,

One of my former professors at WCSU (who also teaches at NYU) runs his own big band out of NYC called the Jamie Begian Big Band. In my opinion, and many others as well, his compositions are the most groundbreaking, innovative big band music out there. His music is very progressive in style, and minimalistic in growth and orchestration, while still still holding true to traditional big band jazz. One of his tunes "Fuzzy Math" won the 2000 BMI Charlie Parker composition.
I don't know how much you guys are into jazz, but I think you guys would really enjoy Jamie's music. If Gil Evans, Yes and Steve Reich had a 3-way love child, this is what they would produce.
Check his stuff out at www.jamiebegian.com, or get their album "Trance"
