View Full Version : So I finally asked...

Enigma™

..my girlfriend to marry me...
And thank GOD she said yes ;) *But I kinda had a sneaking suspicion she would*

Anyway, we went out for dinner last night, then took a walk down on the boardwalk on the waterfront in downtown Halifax *large city where we live* and when I found the right spot I did the whole "get on one knee" and I asked her, and gave her the ring.

It was awesome - the weird thing is that I don't have a girlfriend anymore. I have a Fiancee... It's a weird feeling, but I wouldn't trade it for anything either.

Anyway, just wanted to share!

OMG!!!

That is such great news. Congratulations!

I'm sure you're gonna love being married.

Eleven years later for me and it's still going great!

Even picked up a kid along the way.

Great for you but terrible for all the girls once

they find out you're off the market.

A ha ha - we should have man ;)
We were just getting out from dinner at "Your Father's Moustache" and wanted to take a fairy ride but they weren't running, so it was near the Casino!

Thanks Frank - I'm VERY excited at the new prospects, but the weird thing was, is that I wasn't nervous whatsoever the whole evening... It's going to be great though.

I was hoping JR would help me out... LOL :D

Dunno yet - we've just started planning the wedding so I don't know if it'll be a live band or DJ'ish thing or what exactly... I'm in charge of the music scene so I suspect that we'll probably get a live band to play, but we'll see how that all goes, etc.. :)

May 2006 huh?

Well, that gives you guys enough time to look around
for a new place to live and save up for that and
wedding arrangements. In this day and age, it can
get pretty expensive.

Yeah, no kidding. We've been living together for over 2 years now, so it's more a matter of simply kicking out our current roommate lol.
It IS expensive, but thankfully her mom's a seamstress *she's going to make the wedding dress*, my step-dad is a cook/chef *I do realize they're different, however he's been trained to do both, but in any case...* Her mom's boyfriend is able to get a massive reception hall for free and I have access to tonnes of bands and DJ's here so no worries about music... We have a good chance of making this wedding cost efficient as well as classy!
For people who are married already, what are some of the things that people don't know to plan for? *Unexpected things that most people forget about*

Congrats buddy. I just got back to Ottawa from a trip to Halifax so I know where you are talking about.

Things that cost money that you may not have thought of (some of these things you may not want to do) - this is off the top of my head...

Marriage certificate - must
Flowers for church
Flowers for wedding party
Center pieces for tables
Transpo to and from (ie Limo)
tux rental
Gifts for wedding party
photographer - basically a must
Food - you should deside if you are doing a dinner or not.
hotel room for the night

Congrats buddy. I just got back to Ottawa from a trip to Halifax so I know where you are talking about.
You should have gotten your ass online and PM'd me - Any chance I get to actually meet people from here I try to seize. If you come to Halifax again dude, let me know!

Things that cost money that you may not have thought of (some of these things you may not want to do) - this is off the top of my head...

Ready:

Marriage certificate - must
Oh yeah. Great start huh?

Flowers for church, Flowers for wedding party
These are being home grown by mother in law - she's got some huge ass garden and that's saving a tonne of money right there :) *Same with the bouquet as well*

Center pieces for tables
Thought about, haven't decided WHAT it'll be just yet, but we'll see... Good thinking.

Transpo to and from (ie Limo)
OHHHH - Another good one I didn't think of. I wonder if we'll just walk? lol

tux rental
Obiously, but then again some people would miss that too :)

Gifts for wedding party
I thought it was US that got presents ;) lol

photographer - basically a must
Mutually agreed - I know a photographer that's been with the family for YEARS so I think we have that covered however still expensive regardless.

Food - you should deside if you are doing a dinner or not.
Yeah, we don't know WHAT we're doing there, but it's going to be buffet that way we don't have to worry about paying servers, etc..

hotel room for the night
ANOTHER great thought we didn't think of as well... I mean, it's not like we were going to sleep in the ditch... *ohhh, how romantic is THAT :)*

Thanks for the help folks - anything else you can think of would be appreciated !

Sorry for the tardiness - Congrats, man. And again, sorry my visits to the forum are so far interpersed. Life's been tough lately, G.

"I am" is reportedly the shortest sentence in the English language. Could it be that "I do" is the longest sentence?

I asked if he was gonna get a house with a "barn where its hilly". I cant believe no one picked up on that. Something a couple weeks ago involved Enigma and that phrase.

If you dont get it, you should "sleep with the cows".

Wanna a nice tip?

Don't sleep with her for the entire engagement time. And for the last 3 months or so of engagement, don't even kiss her.

Boy, will you be excited, (on the wedding day).

(not that sleeping with her is something that should be done at all before marriage)
