I just got a new computer that doesn't have a midi input jack and I can't afford the USB ones right now. I do a lot of composing on my computer and the midi sounds on my computer are BAD. I wanted to know if anyone knew of a way or place do download something to make it sound better? Thanks

You can buy a pretty cheap cable which is MIDI <-> Game Port, which means that you can record MIDI on your PC with your keyboard anyway. ;)

As for the MIDI sounds, every PC has got one file, which has got the MIDI sounds in it. Depending on the size, you can say how good the sounds are. Normally, this file is about 8MB big. Maybe your file is even smaller, mine is for example 16MB.
I don't know where to find that file at the moment, but you can search for a better MIDI sounds version in the net.
(I think other people here can help you finding the file and finding a better file ;) )

16MB??? Dude, you're lucky! Once I had a SB AWE 64 and I used a 8MB midi bank. But when I got the SB LIve! Player 1024 I only found a 2MB bank... :(

Yeah, I do have the MIDI to gameport cables but this computer doesn't have a spot for them. I was hoping to find a way to make my computer sound better. Anybody have a download link?? :?:

I have several ideas for the reason why you don't have a gameport:

1. You have OnBoardSound, which means that you don't have a soundcard. If that's it: Buy a new PC or try to buy and install a soundcard! (I don't know if you can install a soundcard that easily when you have OnBoardSound).

2. Your soundcard is ery cheap so that it doesn't have a gameport.
Simply buy a better soundcard and remove your current one.

Also, I agree with Axion - we can tell you exactly what you have to do when make a picture of your PC's ass... err... back :)

Does anyone know where to find GM banks bigger than 2MB? I need at least a 8MB bank, and I need it to be FREE downloadable :)

Hey Marco, can you give me the path or the folder to your file? Because I don't know where I can find mine. :)
I'll have a look how big mine is and send it to you then. ;)

I have onboard sound in my motherboard. It would be a lot cheaper I think to get these. http://proaudiomusic.com/software/UM1-USB-MIDI-cable.htm I was just hoping for a free downloadable temp solution like my friend up there.

Hi,
If the Wave Table in your sound card is really bad... you can try the Yamaha S-YXG50 it's soft W T nice sounds... as a start.
I don't have the link... so I guess you need to do the hunting.

Enjoy it

Just look in the folders your SoundBlaster installer put the files in.
And thank you for sending me the bank if that will be the case! (I hope it's not illegal... :P )

I've found the files - but I also only have an 8MB one :(
I really thought that I have 16.

However. Marco, is it possibe for you to join #jordanchat the day after tomorrow (Thursday)? I don't have any time tomorrow and I would like to send it to you p2p, because e-mailing such a big file is a bit annoying, isn't it? ;)

You got a SIMPLE ISDN connection, while I have an AMAZING ADSL one!!!

Marco

P.S.: I don't want to think of what you could do with a connection that would allow you to be permanently connected to the Internet...
