Claudio,
I would think that VSTi can be the way: make yourself and your band a gift by adding a Virtual Instrument drumkits-oriented and a drums library. My personal choice would fall on Native Instrument's Battery using Toontrack's Drumkit from Hell, I really dig these two sofware marvels up.

You can find more information on www.nativeinstruments.com and www.toontrack.com - on Toontrack's site you shall also find a video of mine in the forum area or keep looking in the links page as I'm there as well: it may be useful as a showcase for the library.

Keep asking around and use my suggestion wisely by comparing it to other ones, good luck!

If you are open to using a hardware drum module, you can't go wrong with the Alesis D5. It sounds pretty realistic and has a very wide selection of kits and indvidual drums for customizing. One of the threads I started had to do with Roland's V-Drums. One guy posted how he is using the V-Drum module. I've heard it only used with the Roland mesh drum pads and that sounds realistic except for, perhaps, the cymbals.

If you have a hardware synth that reads Akai samples, Sweetwater Sounds's Stereo Drums CD-Rom is excellent too; probably the most realistic of the three possibilities.

YEAH..THANK YOU GUYS!
the problem is that i have to work with Velocity, equalization and effect that have to be applied to the drum track, and i dunno from where to start!

Adding effects, EQ etc to a single drum track is very difficult to get good results. The only way to get it to sound good is to have certain drums (particularly the snare) on separate tracks. Generally you want a gated reverb on the snare, and a bit of overall ambience, and that's it for effects. Compression on the bass drum is often a good idea, too, although that's less of a problem using samples.

For the equalisation, boosting the low mids (about 150Hz) and cutting the bass and the high mids gives a good "thump" to the bass drum without eating too much of the frequency spectrum. For snare, it's a similar thing, just with higher frequencies... keep the treble down to avoid excessively fizzy sounds. Tom sounds shouldn't need much equalisation at all, and cymbals should have plenty of top without being hissy, and not a lot of low end. The hardest sound to EQ is the hi-hat, it's just a case of sweeping the frequencies (ideally with a parametric EQ) and seeing what sounds best in the mix. You're probably looking for upper mid, rather than treble, though as otherwise it'll fizz.

Hope this helps a bit :)

I use a program called "Percussion Studio 2.04g (http://www.henrykellner.com/PercussionStudio/)" and samples by "DrumKit from Hell (www.drumkit.toontrack.com/)". The songs on my website (http://www.mp3.com/tigerfolly/) and this song here (TRO 082403 (http://exit3.i-55.com/~tigerfolly/media/TRO%20082403%20VBR.mp3)) use this, and I really like it. The samples are perfect, and there's tons of great variation on them.. 13 levels of velocity for each hand..

I play drums, but don't have my drumkit anymore, and I don't have the room to record live drums right now, but I can't stand crappy drum tracks.. I need the flexibility and realism of good programming. Unfortunately, the features I need in a program don't really exist, so I have to comprimise until I learn enough object oriented programming to write my own :)

Check out the demos on the DrumKit from Hell website.. they're astonishing.
