View Full Version : Can I get some feedback from some gigging vets?
I just added my web-site to some search engines and was looking for some feedback, from some gigging vets, on the content of my site. The main goal is to convince people looking for live music, in the Yuma area, to contact me. If you (Chris, Frank, etc.) have a few moments, maybe you can check it out for me:

Thanks,
John.

MP: "Rock 'n' Roll baby! Hey Derek, what are you doing today?"
DS: "Making history, and you?"
I love this quote.

Same here. Even a not-so-veteran-gigger like me can tell you that wonŽt give you a whole lot of gigs!
Anyway, IŽm sure youŽre having it down for some good reason! IŽll try again later...

Now it works! The site looks professional enough I think and all info is quite easy to access... The sample I have heard already. Think it was a real nice recording! Highly usable site overall!
...and you can do peopleŽs tax-returns in the breaks for a small extra charge!

This must be a sign that I'm getting too old. I don't get it :?

That's kind of odd. I've been working on it quite frequently over the last month and never had an access problem. Of course I'm never trying at certain times (i.e. 3am).
I'm just starting to book my own gigs. So while I'm not terrible new to gigging, I am kind of new to the booking side.

Hi John.
Here's my 2 cents:
1. Take the CPA business card off the webpage. If you want to market that seperately, keep some cards on hand at gigs. Your site should only focus on music if that's what you're selling.
2. Remove the comment about your PA equipment being good enough to be played through or make announcements with. Your clientele should automatically assume that you will be providing sufficient sound to support your performance. This information is confusing to a consumer who knows nothing about music or the music business.
3. On the rates and info page, remove the line " would prefer to play with at least a bass player". Change it to say something like "Performance packages include an upright bass player but Solo performances are also an option... (Then continue with your paragraph explaining why bass player is an added benefit).
4. Add more samples to the samples page and minimize the description to only a single sentence per song.
Kudos to you for going it on your own on the bookings. Remember to get a signed contract that completely states the terms of your performance and compensation prior to any show.
Let me know if I can provide more info.
Hope this helps !
Chris

Actually, accounting & computers is my main source of income and gigging is mostly for a little extra $. If I didn't gig I'd never have money for equipment. But I'm going to start thinking about how I can better seperate the two.

OK, I'm going to rework that sentence. My thought was that people typically want to make speeches at their events (i.e. best man says something about the groom, etc) and I wanted to point out that not only is the PA there for the band, it's also their for any speeches or announcements that they would like to make. I'll work on changing that.

Sounds good. Thanks.

I just started this web-site about a month or two ago. I plan on adding more samples. In the near future, I'm going to add:
Cannon in D. Popular wedding classic. Plus it's easy to play.
The Wedding March. I'm going to use an organ patch.
A lot more Jazz. Including songs recorded with friends (horn, bass, & guitar players)

I'm looking forward to it. I enjoy the responsibility of being the one to make sure everything works out Ok. I'm going to have contracts, but I'm not going to require any deposits at the moment. Did you ever require deposits?
Thanks a lot for taking a look. I figure I have about one more week or so to refine my content before it actually "goes live". I just registered it with google, msn, & yahoo this past Sunday.
Thanks again, John O.
I wasn't sure if you realized this or not, but the business cards are actually links to the various parts of my web-site (like a menu system). If you start by going to http://johnolin.com you can see the whole web-site. But I'm more concerned with the Mostly Jazz content at the moment.
OK. I've thought about it.
I'm going to loose the accounting business card on the music screen and only have the music business card and the "home" link. If someone want's to check out the accounting screens they can either choose the small "accounting" link at the bottom of the screen or go back to the "home" page. Hopefully I'll be able to make changes tonight.
Thanks again for reviewing my site, John O.
