Not too serious, please!

I took a test on the internet once (in english), and got 128.
"130 or more" was the maximum.

I took two tests
1. 150
2. 129 (it was english and i didn't understand all the questions well)

So, average will be something like 140.

I've taken three tests, been measured at 142, 143 and 137 (I was tired) so that just about rounds up to 141-160 :) On the rare occasion I'm asked I always say 142...

Never been tested, never saw the point in it.

nah, 150 is very very high, but not the highest, i think stephen hawking is at 213

i've tested ranging from 155 to 161, the very first time i ever tested, it was 158, so i stick to that

Just a little nuance to the outcome of this poll:

An IQ test cannot be compared unless we all take the same IQ test. Actually, most IQ tests are designed in such a way that the average score of the whole population taking the test is equal 100. However, if we all take different IQ tests, which are each one designed for an average of 100 and if those IQ tests do not treat exactly the same topics and type of exercises, the average will no more be 100 and this means that our poll here will definately be biased, maybe even way overstated, even though I think that there are easily a lot of people above 100-110 here.

Finally, having a high IQ is good but having a good IQ AND EQ is better because you will be able to make the most of it. What use is an Einstein IQ, if your EQ is such that you cannot socialize with people (i.e. very low); will you be able to make the most out of your life ?

That said, we are the good and bad personality which makes each one of us stand out and there's no benchmark to measure that ...

IQ 135 taken somewhere, at 1:30 AM, after a pepperoni pizza of about 30 cm of radius and a night spent trying to take a good organ out of my new K2000 without ANY knowledge of VAST. Of course I failed.

Also, if you take an english test and it's not your native language you lose points...I had one in my language this morning and scored 148.

Amen to that Georges.

I've taken several standardized tests, some on the internet and some in real life... The hardest one I ever took was a Mensa level 2 test. *they go up to level 5* and I only got 110 on it... I was amazed I even got that but man.. I wouldn't bother trying anything higher then that.

I have to 100% agree with Georges on the EQ aspect however: Most amazing genius personality types are also the anti-social types as well. Not to say that's always entirely true, however it is often the case.

Speaking of tests:
http://www.highiqsociety.org/noflash/nonmembers/iqtests.htm

I took the one on the FAR right... It took me about 2 hours to do 25 questions LOL!! But I got 116... Phew. I'm not dumb ;)

Check it out if you want, the test is called

well you know, they give some sort of iq test to kids when they are 8 years old in elementary school, and its not that much different from ones adults are given, only worded differently so kids can understand, and usually, the score doesnt change as a person gets older since it doesnt really test factual knowledge.

whats a 12 year old doing here though heh

That's not true. You can actually improve your score as you get older. Practicing fast mathematics, taking logical tests, your life experience, your communication skills and vocabulary (which improve with age) as well as stressy jobs can help you becoming more efficient, i.e. quicker and better (both criteria will boost your score).

For a starting point, check out e.g. "Harnessing the Parabrain" by Tony Buzan, which I recommend you to read. I read it 10 years ago. Quite interesting ...

On the other hand, "stressy jobs" as you say actually reduces brain power, that's the main detrimental feature of stress. So a job that keeps your brain active and is challenging, but has the minimum of psychological stress and strain would be more geared for increasing IQ.

hrm ok well yes, it isnt set in stone, and obviously working on such things as you mention can help, I am just saying though that unlike maybe a 12 year old taking a calculus test, with information he should not be expected to solve, if a kid takes a kid iq test, and then an adult iq test, it IS rare to see dramatic score increase, because you can gain some of the skills tested as you said, but not really as much as ou can get factual knowledge. The iq test tests skills that are much harder tto "learn". That said, I dont hold it with too much regard since it only tests one of the many types of intelligences people can have. I tihnk I had 135 one I took one though

Whos above 200 :P ? Anyway i took a few IQ tests and the results were in quite large range from 131 to 150....(the highest obtained in an american interent iq test so i guess its not worth to trust). I heared about Mariah Savant whos 280 or something....

Btw, its nice to know that many guys from this forum could be members of Mensa!
What about Jordan?

no no... Mensa has specialized tests that are like, 10 times harder then most average tests. Trust me, I've tried to get in to mensa... Not happening for me lol.

That depends on how you cope with stress. Not everyone is affected in the same way. However, the best is to do such jobs only during a few years; it's a great school for life because you learn to appreciate the simple and relaxing life.

Well, the official cryteria of joining Mensa is to have IQ within the range possessed by less then 2% of society. The lowest accepted is therefore 141! And its not that high- look that in, for example, 2 classes in high school there should be one guy intelligent enough.
10 times harder....well, mabe if you compare with tests given in popular websites, newspapers etc. Look at http://www.mensa.org/workout.php- its not THAT hard.
But read the commentary also...

just to chip in, i'll note that the IQ of Doug, I think, is in the 130's - 136 was a result I most recently got. Isn't it crazy to see all us proggers above average? kinda funny.
