Hi
I´m currently working on some songs and i use sonar 3 or cakewalk 9.0 and my roland xp-30 connected throught midi cable.
I´ve edited my 16 midi tracks on the keyboard (in the user patch), but when i play my midis from the cakewalk software, some of the patches are changed! P.e. I have an oboe predifined on track 1, but when i press play it changes to an electronic sound.
Can someone help me?
I would appreciatte it very much

This is something for the Gear Talk section, but here's the deal.
When you play midi-files the file contains all the data, so that means that the midi file decides which sounds it will use.
An option you can try is:
Set your locator just right after the start: 00.00.00.001 or something like that. Then change the patches to the patches you desire and let the midifile continue.
Hope this helps.

Cakewalk allows you to define instruments and patches. Locate the *.ins file on the net and load it into cakewalk. That way when it sends a patch change via Midi, you'll have the correct patch.

The XP-30 has no sequencer and that is why you can't play any complete MIDI files with it, only single patches.

no......he means when using the xp30 in multitimbral, to use it`s sounds in Sonar, not to play them directly from the xp30[/quote]

Thank you guys for your precious help :)
The .ins cakewalk file is very helpfull!
But i seem to be having some problems :(
P.e. in cakewalk the orchestral xp30 Bank is devided in orchestral bank 1 (ranges 1-129 intruments) and orchestral bank 2 (130-250 intrument ranges)
When i choose intrument patch number 50 i choose the 1st orchestral bank, but in that bank only shows the instruments from the 2nd orchestral bank.
I can´t seem to choose any instrument from the fist division (1-129), because he only shows the isntruments from the 2nd division (130-250) either i choose the 1st or the 2nd orchestral bank
If someone has a suggestion i would appreciate it a lot
Thanks a lot again :)

I think your problem is down to program change messages going between your XP30 and Sonar. Go to your Sonar manual and look up how to turn off sending program change messages from Sonar. Make sure that each midi track in sonar has the correct midi channel set for the part it should be playing back from your keyboard also.
