View Full Version : Finally got a K2600x!
Yep, a dream came true recently when I seen a gently used K2600x w/PRAM, int 4GB HD, Ochestral, Contemporary, Vintage EP and Stereo Dynamic Roms and 64Mb ram with a Sweetwater softcase. All for $1400, God love ya Craigs/Kijiji!
So where do I buy two 64Mb 72 pin Simms?
I also need to extract the SMP-2X sampling option from my old K2500X and fix an issue with my K2600x's small ribbon (not functioning) and pitch wheel (wired backwards ~ Up = pitch bend down)

Congrats! I can't believe how much these have gone down in value over the years. I paid $2900 for my XS about 8 years ago and here's one on Ebay for less than a thousand. Still one of the best synths ever IMHO. I'll never sell it. Love the VAST and KDFX with a passion. : )

Thanks Airspeed,
I bought my used K2500x around 9 years ago for $2750 + added pno, orc, contemp roms, maxed out ram, added Kdfx, added sampler, added PRAM, added int 9gb hd. (4x 2GB partitions) A few keys hammers got noisey and a few button presses got soft although still work. I can't even imagine how much the old beast cost in total?
Then I see this deal on Craigslist, I knew it was a great deal. As far as buying a 100lb synth and having it shipped is scary (If they even ship you anything for your $$$$, many K2600xs scams out there)

Wow, that sold for £512(GBP). I know kurz is meant to be the daddy of synths and for that price, I'd happily take the plunge! Maybe when I've got money burning my pocket and a bit more space at home, I'll start keeping my eyes peeled.
EDIT: That one in the link is a great price as well. Just found one similar and they want £2,500 for it! Whoever won the other one got themselves an amazing bargain!
I was playing my K2600x the other day and noticed VSTi's work correctly with my pitch wheel but the Kurz sound module pitch bends backwards. I thought it was gonna be an easy fix, now this is more confusing than resoldering two wires on the pitch wheel potentiometer. Still couldn't be happier with the price I paid for all I got!

Just out of curiosity, since u mentioned VSTs, can u hook up a laptop to ur K2600 and include sounds from ur VST rig in combis on the K2600? And then easily switch between patches (assigned in basically a list) using a footswitch?
As an example say I had a song that I had to scroll through patches in, and I wanted to use sounds from both the 2600 and my VST rig. Say some patches went something like:
1) bottom half of keys: bass from laptop. top half of keys: Piano from K2600
2) Velocity split: quiet: woodwinds from VSt. Loud: Brass from K2600
etc.
Is this possible? And if so would I be able to scroll through these using a footswitch?
Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, I've just been looking for a nice proggy synth that can do this without going through ridiculous complicated processes like the Korg M3, and I know the K2600 is still supposed to be a great synth.
First point is I do need to take my synth for servicing to get minor issues fixed.
Vsti's, I've only experimented with Hypersonic II (the 1024 voice polyphony VSTi)
If I change a Program or Setup on the Kurz then that VSTi would change its patches as well (often with mixed results, usually wierd) I guess anything is possible with midi and using several Sound Modules connected to a Master Keyboard.

I'm surprised nobody answered your question. Seems like this is done all of the time. But i'm like you , not sure how its done and i live in an area where the BIG chain music stores are very far away and they don't have a clue.

Yeah well I've been looking at the PC3x lately, and I've been instore and spoken to Kurzweil and watched online videos and whatnot and with the Pc3x this is definitely possible, but I just want to konw if it's possible with older models.
In case u were wondering tho, to make my task simpler, I would be manually changing the VST sounds using a seperate footswitch. So what I would then be doing is having two independent footswitches for changing sounds: one for the master kurzweil setups, and one for the VSTis.

@SoulFire
I don't know how VST is working. But if it's midi-controllable, the answer would be: "yes".
On a K2600 you can use Setup-Mode to create afaik up to 8 Zones. Each Zone can be defined in range, velocity trigged and much more. Also, each Zone can be set to a different Midi channel, and can be set up to use whether an internal or external programm or both.
Changing a sound with a footpedal is done by setting up a switchpedal in a zone to DataInc or DataDec midi controller. This will let you move up or down thru your setups. But this would change the whole setup of the K2600 on each step. I'm not sure, if there's way another way to change the programs separately.

Of course you could do it ... You could assign vst to any zone or layer, and have everything controled from the k2600.
