Ok, so I have my keyboard connected to my computer through a stereo cable. If I plug it in the mic jack, I can hear everything just fine through my computers speakers, and can record too. The problem with this, though, is that this degrees the quality quite a bit, making everything a bit too distorted sounding. Now it has come to my attention that when I plug it into the Line In jack, everything is much, much smoother sounding, like when I use head phones. The problem is, although I am able to get the computer to recognize and produce the keyboard sound, I have NO idea how to get it to record from the line in jack. What do I do? I have windows xp and creative sound blaster pci btw. I checked the settings on volume control, and line in is turned up, I dont get it

you need to do this:
Open your mixer. You need to open the RECORDING mixer by going into options, then properties.
Click the RECORDING button there, then you'll see your RECORDING mixer channels.
You have to check the box that says Line In *so that you're telling it to record the line in instead of the actual Mic jack in*
That's usually the reason and I hope it helps :)

yeah man I checked that, and that box was already checked by default, though all that says is "show the following volume controls"... are you speaking of something completely different here?

yeah, but after you click "recording" on the properties, hit "Okay" and it will change the view to the recording mixer, different from the volume mixer...because all that initial check mark means is that it will show you that slider...you then need to select it later as your only recording option

No, you didn't get it...
When you double click the little speaker in the system tray it opens the volume properties right?
Those are PLAYBACK volumes... Not recording volumes.
Do what Dave said.
Options > Properties > Click RECORDING then click OK
NOW YOU ARE IN THE RECORDING MIXER....
There will be a check on the active recording option... Mic, Line In, Mono Mix or whatever...
If you wanna record line in, check LINE IN... Then all you will need to do is adjust volumes (line in volume, your keyboard and whatnot)...

ok I FINALLY figured out the problem. I did click on "recording" for the "adjust volume for" thing on the properties menu on the volume control thing, and the line in slider was all the way up and I disabled the mic volume, but I realized that even that even though it was SHOWING, I didnt check the "select" box below it on the actual mixing board thing. well thats for helping me and my stupidity guys.
Holy shit, the quality is awesome. Better get trying to write stuff :)
