I regret to inform you of some serious aliasing issues that
had taken place with the first version of the operating
system. Make sure you contact Alesis to see if the version
you have has the fix.

Otherwise, congratulations and happy music making to you!
A great board!

Yeah, I already knew about the aliasing issues :? . I heard them first hand when I tried it out. Fantastic board though and for $650, you really can't go wrong.

My next synth will probably be an Ion. I already have a ROMpler (S90) and I'm heavily into synth sounds and the price is right.

For those who don't know how that synth looks like... Does anyone have a pic of it? :)

Yeah it looks cool, even though I could imagine better colours instead of that gray...

The definitive answer from EQ correspondent Craig Anderton re:aliasing

Quote:

"I have the definitive answer for y'all, which also explains why even the amazing Mr. Bryce didn't hear aliasing until he read about it here: it originally wasn't there. Let me explain. (Those who attended my Ion seminars already know this, so you can move on to the next topic.)

I had never noticed aliasing, but just before starting my Ion seminar tour, I swore that I heard the Dreaded Alias. I asked Alesis about it, and the deal is that the beta versions on which Dave and I got started did not have aliasing. When Alesis made the change to production software, they made an error in the coding and the aliasing returned, and people started pointing it out.

According to the Ion engineers, the aliasing will be gone again in the next OS update. There will also be some new filter types.

Those who attended my seminars will remember that I played the aliasing sound, and noted that people should enjoy it while they can, because it's going to be gone soon!

I hope this clears things up. If an Alesis person has anything to add, please do."

In all seriousness, I actually enjoyed the original silver and lime green color scheme better that the red side panels.

I'm listening to some Ion demos right now, and I must say it does sound VERY analog, with snappy envelopes you want for an analog sound. The different filter types do a lot for it. I want Alesis to see if they can put some Yamaha CS80 filters in one of their updates tho. The CS80 is a unique instrument. Still, the Ion is the VA to get if you don't want to spend over $2000 on a real analog, or a Novation Supernova.

Someone on the forum mentioned that if he had a choice of VA's
he'd get either a Nord Lead III or an Ion.

But if you think about it, you can get two Ions for the price of a NL3.
I've seen them go for $649.00

a quick look at my (and the parents) ebay account has determined that I will be getting one for christmas :D

ive got the vintage synth card for my alesis qs7.1... you guys think I should sell/trade it for another type of card like the vintage keyboards or classical piano... or will I still find use with it you think?
