I spotted a job advert for musicians wanted. Turns out its for function bands. After asking many questions about it I applied and I've been invited to audition.
Out of the list of songs they've given me, I've chosen to do the killers - somebody told me, and Stevie Wonder - I wish.
Now the killers one I can probably manage myself and work out most of it by ear. But the Stevie Wonder track is another story.
After finding what sounded like an accurate MIDI file and importing into sibelius, I suddenly remembered how illegible MIDI scores can be. No idea why I'd forgotten, but I was just hoping that it would solve my problems and give me a readable score.
Before looking into a MIDI file I tried searching for a score pdf of it and found nothing. Can anyone help me out here? I really need to get an accurate non simplified version of the score asap so I can be prepared for this audition.
If any of your are session players... How do you learn songs? By ear? Or is there some amazing resource for sheet music that I'm simply unaware of?
One thing does come to mind though. I know that the music pad pro system JR uses has an online store for digital downloads of sheet music. Is there anything like this for those of us that don't own a music pad?
Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

I have no idea how accurate it is, but give it a try!
Good luck man

Thanks for the reply Scott.
Is this not only compatible for the music pad pro though? If not, what can I use to view it on my pc?
Thanks

Hey Osiris,
From what I am seeing you should be able to print the sheet music because it is in the "Legacy Edition" not sure if you can view it on the computer or not.
If it was in the "Solero Edition" you can view it and play it on your computer if need be.
I would give it a try it may be better than what you are finding elsewhere.

I think this is the exact same but I know you can print it by using the free software they provide.
p.s. great choice of song!

Thanks, but I didn't choose it really!
They gave the following list and I had to do a piece from each category. Chose the killers cause theres the synthy riff thing after the first chorus n a few pad things elsewhere. and stevie wonder as it was the best for keys in that category.
Here's the choices I was given.
Rock and Pop
Bet you look good on the Dancefloor – Arctic Monkeys
Somebody told me - Killers
Sex On fire – Kings of Leon
Roll With it - Oasis
I kissed a girl – Katy Perry
Dakota – Stereophonics
Mr Brightside - Killers
Use Somebody – Kings of Leon
Love Machine – Girls Aloud
Funk and Soul
I Wish - Stevie Wonder
Blame it on the boogie - Jackson 5
Play that funky music - Wild Cherry
For the stevie track... I'm thinking of using the rps feature on my fantom to do the various brass stabs... that'll really be showing off and they'll see what I'm capable of. Think it'll help me and my instrument shine

midi scores are rather unreadable,
but at least if you quantize that shit, and than split the parts to left and right hand in Sibelius with a bit of effort they can be come readable, it just takes a bit of effort

Just thought I'd give a quick update.
Didn't end up getting any form of score as I figured for a function band, the crowd wont notice if you play it slightly differently, say a chord in an alternative inversion or what have you.
So if it sounds right, (even if its not note for note exact) then it'll be okay.
Had the audition today, and it went well. A few friends tried out too and the company said they'd be in touch. Fingers crossed

Yeah, never worry about that unless it's a song where the keys go through a melody, other than that just fill in with chords and follow the groove. I usually look for a live version of the songs and see (listen) how they work it out.

I play piano in a bar, so it's not exactly the same as what you're doing, but I just have a couple of the Real Books and a fairly large store of them on my computer in case anyone wants anything in particular. And if you're any good at reading chords and improvising, then you're sorted just with that. I've found that people tend not to listen to the musician anyway - it's just background noise that sounds good.

Yeah, completely agree with that. Me and some friends were thinking of setting up a background music kinda thing for bars n clubs. It goes without saying that people don't listen really.
Throughout history, musicians are often there to be ignored.
