I have one... It worked a little over 10 years ago, but since it had been sitting in my parents basement, it experienced some mouse issues. I did my best to clean all the nests and crap out, but it still won't power up.

Should I get it fixed? (Who works on these anymore?) Or should I sell it? I had it on ebay a year ago, but didn't get my reserve of 700 bucks...was getting offers of 4 and 5.

What would you do? :?:

UPDATE:

Advanced musical said it's 90 bucks to just look at it, but it's probably not worth fixing.

Does anyone know what these are wirth in working order? Should I follow her advice and "throw it out"

I feel like I have a piece of history here.... I know they're hard to find.

8 times out of 10 when an electrical device does not work, the problem lies in the power supply. I have a Gallien Kruger 250RL someone picked out of the trash and gave to me that I put all of $3 into to get it to work. Most of the time (I'm generalizing here) repair shops don't want to be bothered with stuff if they don't see a profit in it for them; which is understandable to an extent. We're all in business to make money, not provide charity.
My suggestion: If you really want to try to save this unit, call around to any electronics repair places and explain to them that you have a synth that you think has a power supply problem and ask if they will look at the power supply. Most of the components are pretty standard off the shelf stuff. $35-45 would be reasonable offer for about 15min of their time. It's a gamble, but the odds are in your favor. If it is the power supply, expect to pay at least $100 or more.

Well, since you are "near philly", I would recommend calling up Prototypes in Kensington, MD. They work on all kinds of old electronic equipment, particularly keyboards, so theres a good chance they could fix it. About 500 miles of driving (back and forth twice) and whatever they charge you to fix it, and you would have a functioning Multimoog. At that point you could choose to either keep it (what I would do) or try to ebay it. You will always get more for something that you can guarantee to people works.

As for what its worth, go on ebay, do a search for "multimoog" and then look at completed items. Basically the average of those is how much the thing is worth.

You could you also sell it to me :-P. That Moog sounds amazing!!! (when fixed of course). If you're into prog i suggest you keep it, it's a sound you won't find anywhere else. Here in the Netherlands it's a very expensive synth....all vintage synths are quite popular here. For instance MiniMoogs that are being sold for about 2500 euro's or Prophet5's for at least 1700....

In all seriousness, I think I need to get my keyboarding skills up to par before I worry about a crazy analog synth like this... I think I'm going to sell it.

Before I take this to Ebay, does anyone want to take a stab at buying and trying to get this thing fixed? I'll let it go fairly cheap since It needs some work. (Hopefully just a power supply, but could possibly be some severed wires, I doubt any boards are blown though.)

I'd also take equipment in trade: midi control surfaces... if you're looking to get rid of a good rackmount synth module, I'd offer this as a portion of the payment with cash on top since I'd really like to get my hands on one.

I accept paypal, piano lessons, and pocket lint.

Question, folks:

I'm getting TONS of responses from my harmony central ad for this.... I'm not too up on my gear. Considering it doesn't work, would any of the following be a good trade for it? (er, I'll rephrase, is any of this sthuff any good for a tech-head who's lacking in his keyboarding skills, but loves new toys?)

Roland vp-70 vioce to midi and harmonizer

Roland juno 106 with modified blue lit bender and still has all original voices

DX-7 mark1 with ram and 2 roms breath controller and anvil case

Roland A70 master midi controller with skb case

Korg MS2000R VA and vocoder with midi controller (MK4902)

EMU ESI2000 Sampler with internal and external ZIP drive.

Roland JX-3p

Thanks for your input.

Roland A70 master midi controller with skb case

Korg MS2000R VA and vocoder with midi controller (MK4902)

EMU ESI2000 Sampler with internal and external ZIP drive.
