I was just thinking about how most of the exercises for piano are boring and really dull, so I'm asking you ppl if you know any interesting exercises, for instance for finger strength?

Thanks,

-j

I think you should look for some melodic etudes then. For example Heller. I play his studies a lot and they let you work on loads of technical aspects and they are really nice to play too.

Perhaps Chopin Etudes?

Chopin really DOES improve finger strength. I like his nocturnes personally, they have some pretty good little runs to practice on. My favorite of all is the 24th prelude, but I can't play it yet. Anyone around here familiar with it?

Thats right you heard the man! Twice even!
The OC is perfect and i know since im a student like many of us.

Gotta agree with the heller excercises too though.
Its not all about fingerstrength... YOu gotta have the technique first before you can apply fingerstringth. practice your scale-runs, modes with bach and so on,

Some people say that OC gives nothing more than Keyboard Wizardry, and since I'm tight on my budget, I would really think twice before signing up...

some people also say the world was going to end 100 years ago.

C'mon man, before you waste 2 braincells when making a reply, consider the idea of signing up and checking it out without a preconception of what's in there before you actually know. Or even worse, spreading words that aren't true...

sheesh.

I think the Hanon exercises can be varied on as well to make them less boring. For example, choose one of the basic patterns and do it in all the modes of one key. Make rhytmic variations as well, like empasizing every third note. If you find a place of the pattern that is harder than the rest, stay there for a while, only practicing a segment that involves that particular place. Do the pattern in harmonic and melodic minor modes, as well as with the diminished (half/whole, whole/half), whole tone and altered scales... *Important*: If you find the pattern you play difficult, don´t play something else. Keep working at it until you have it down!

Those people are ignorants and don't know what they are talking about!

The OC is most definately the BEST place for finger strength/flexibility exercises. No book will give you the same impressive results over a short time than the OC. There are really many many exercises to start from and using their philosophy you can build many new ones for further training or apply them to existing ones (such as Hanon). That alone is worth more than the simple 50 USD it costs.

Go for it and discover a new way to train strength, or save your money but then don't spread your senseless comments as the one above. Whatever, I will not tell you what those exercises are or their philosophy is like only because you claim to be tight on budget...

PS: I have BOTH OC and video and they complement eachother pretty much. Neither the video nor the OC are complete, but together they are the perfect package for many many many ... many problems you encounter on your keyboard.
