Is there somebody from there on here? I'm flying there for 3 weeks this summer and would be interested in potential "places of interest for a musician", a musician-musician talk or even a small jam[I'm a keyboardist from Germany playing in a progressive metal band(only covering things to have "at least ONE song the audience knows")].

I live in Portland, Or. But, I am a paraplegic in a wheelchair, so I do not get out as much as I would like, and do not know many musicians here. I will ask around for places to go if ya want. We have a very diverse music scene.. tons of art too. If you like jazz at all, Jimmy Macks is an absolute MUST go on Tuesdays (Mel Brown Septet); Thurs is the B3 trio, very cool as well.
For metal and rock.. lots of places. For prog.. not sure; seems to be the one genre that pops up now and then.

first of all: thanks!
But I forgot to mention one thing: I am and will still be 17 when I go to America, so I don't know... I think Jazz clubs are off limits to me, aren't they?(I don't know the legal restrictions in America)

It really depends on the club. I've found that most jazz clubs don't mind, but more rock-oriented places do.

We have a good number of age friendly clubs. Jimmy's place is tops, and until 9pm, all ages. It is a restaurant + bar, so they can allow all ages until 9pm. Opening acts most Tues, and then at least 1 hour of the septet. First time we brought my Dad & step Mom there, kids and adults (age 12 and up) brought their instruments and got to jam with the band. My Dad, a jazz musician, practically had tears running down his face in joy, seeing so many kids playing jazz- and playing well- and doing so in a club, not just at a school.
We have rock clubs/bars and theatres that are age flexable as well. Tons and tons of art here.

this sounds good to me... it's really like stepping into another world, though: last friday people of my age organized a party starting at 8:30 pm.
Would you mind finding out which of rock clubs/bars are age flexible?
