I'll be leaving this server on all the time, so when I play, it'll just broadcast on it's own :) (If you hear silence, it means I'm not playing lol)

Anyway, use Winamp or Windows Media Player (Or basically anything that can handle streams like VLC media player) to listen :)

I'll be online for a little while - if someone could test this out for me, that'd be awesome - just post here to let me know if it works or not!

Bump - I'm online again and probably will be for a few hours.

I'm working on trying to get a video stream from a HD camera as well, but for now it's just audio.

are you streaming anything right now? not sure if it's working on my end. seems to be though...just not hearing anything.

Enigma™

Yeah, it's streaming, but I was watching heroes :) lol

*So no music*

It's a little late, I don't know that I'll play anymore tonight, but I'll be on tomorrow night around 7pm EST to mess around hopefully.

I'd really like to see if there's a way my handycam can stream data to the computer like a webcam instead of recording and then posting. If I could do something like that, I think it would be awesome to have people like... Almost tutor me and share ideas of things I could try that would help me get better.

I guess kind of like using the keyboarding community as a global teacher.

Heck, I think it would be cool if JR did something similar too, where he broadcasted his practice session and we could toss ideas at him and see what he does.

Well, I'm certainly no JR, but I still think it would fun times though to do stuff like that.

Hehe that's cool.. that would be good for my performance anxiety, practicing and never knowing wether someone's listening in

I think so. It also forces me to consider a few things:

I'm always so self-conscious about mistakes... but unless you're Arcadi Volodos, they're totally inevitable especially during practice. So I'm learning to get over that... And the other thing is that I know I'm super self-critical. I think by doing this, it's forcing me to hear that I'm not as bad as I think I am.

Besides - I'm advising people to give me feedback too - I want to know if while I'm practicing there's something I could be doing better. (Again, a community teacher lol)

I just need a high-quality webcam and the right streaming software :)

Could you post how exactly you did this?

Sure!

So from an internet perspective, I had to have a routable IP address.

(I had to be taken out of my internal domain I've created because I put in a bunch of security measures that will prevent that kind of data)

I plugged my laptop directly into the internet modem lol

That was the hard part.

Then I needed to get an encoder of sorts that would let me choose my sound source. I used simplecast.

It's free, but it's a demo version. (every 4 hours it'll disconnect, which means that I have to start it every 4 hours, though I don't usually practice for 4 hours so it works out)

So this will encode your soundsource into WMA, MP3, OGG or whatever.

Once you've done this, you need to have a server that people can connect to.

For this, I used Icecast2 (icecast.org)

This will act as the server that people get their broadcast from, while Simple cast will turn your music into an MP3 or whatever and submits it to the server for distribution.

When you add your encoder, you'll have to configure it to point to the server. (Make sure the server is running first, and then configure the encoder to point to either localhost or 127.0.0.1)

If it can't find it over port 8000 by default, it'll error out but in most cases, it should be fine.

Once that's set up and both encoder and server is running, you should be streaming. The only thing you need to do is make sure that the sound source you want to use is configured by the encoder itself.

It's not super hard to set up - I just didn't realize that you need an encoder, I figured there was an all-in-one solution. But now I know better, and after that configuration was a breeze if you have a little computer know-how :)

I'm practicing again for a while, but this time I'm making sounds :)

a nightmare to remember :)

adding mallet sounds to reverb piano

This is so cool.

I'd say the piano needs to be a bit sharper though, like a stronger attack?

I agree, but for the moment I'm trying to get the clicking sound of the fire :)

Hahaha - it's on right now :-)

I'm just tweaking some minor settings, I'm almost done though

Okay, done - I'll be uploading a sample and the K25 file shortly :-)

Somehow I can't open it.

I'll try another time. Now it's time to say: goodnight!

Sorry - my girlfriends computer (Her laptop, which I'm forced to use for now) powered off because it over-heated. God forbid I open a window or two lol

Anyway, the ANTR opening sound is uploaded in the patch exchange section. Check out the demo, and I'll get around to making a tutorial for you PC2X/PC3X users soon :)
