Hey guys... just bored and thought I'd ask a random question...

Does anyone know if Jordan still uses his K2600 at all or even owns one? I heard it for one solo in SC but didn't recognise it anywhere in BC&SL.

I bought my K2600 just weeks before score was released...only to find he'd stopped using Kurzweil. Now as each day passes I can't help but feel my keyboard is really dated.

technologies in it are dated but the sound and everything is really up to date.

That's life with nowadays technologies

If you base your idea on what is "dated" by what professional music super-stars have on their stage, you had better have a music superstar's bank account too! (or sponsorship!)

The k2600 is still great!

The curve of new improvements to the actual sound of these keyboards is going to be VERY slow assuming there is no big breakthrough in instrument modeling and such.

You can see a Kurzweil in his "Studio Tour" vid with Gianluca, and I'm almost sure there's some vid where you can clearly see a PC3X in the back.

As far as I know his Kurz is still favourite. It's the centre piece to his studio. With the Oasys tucked away to one side.

Oh to be able to have a collection of synths as good as JR's... :frown:

Haha ! You win with that !

and to holywoodj :

If a keyboard is "dated" it doesn't mean it sounds bad all of a sudden. First it's a mather of tastes, but it's also a mather of what YOU want to do with it. Jordan now use a OASY live with DT because it's hell of a job to pull off all these songs live, but I guess (at least I hope) you don't have as many complex sounds to do and change in all your songs

For me, the Triton Extreme is still the perfect keyboards for all my stuffs, it's outdated but I don't see myself buy a M3 or something newer, at least not from Korg.

(But I'm dying for a Moog Little Phatty and/or Nord Electro:biggrin:)

(off topic...)
Are you in the market for one? Cause a guy near me is selling one for $900. You could probably talk him down a bit too...

Can I ask how you "heard" a ROMPler on an album with dozens of keyboard sounds, most of which were of ROMPler origin?

The thing with ROMPlers is, the only thing that really get's outdated are the internal samples and sometimes the effects and maybe the DAC. For instance if you had a brand new keyboard with an identical synth engine to the Roland D50, but it had a new DAC, updated effects, and a modern 400mb wave ROM, it would sound incredible.

But synths haven't really changed that much since the late 90s. With each iteration they get more wave ROM, more sample memory, and more simultaneously available effects, but that's really about it in terms of things that will actually show up on a recording.

Hell, my EX5 is from 98 or so, and besides a somewhat limited wave ROM by today's standards, it still sounds great for the most part.

Anyway, I'm sure Jordan still has Kurzweil stuff. I think the only reason he would get rid of it is if he really needed the space. He probably doesn't use it much on DT stuff because he knows he has to recreate it live, so starting on the OASYS or V Synth or whatever he's taking out with him is just easier.
