Anybody heard this album?
It's really brilliant. A masterpiece, that can easily sit next to the rest of their album's.
First disc is a 55 minute masterpiece split into separate tracks. I was afraid that it would just be a bunch of songs blended together, but it's not.
It's got noticeable reoccurring themes. Great melodies. I just can't get over how great it is.
I wasn't satisfied with Nil Recurring. But, this has just been a great CD all throughout. And, there's allot of material.
What'd you guys think of it?
I'm going to see them tomorrow.

sounds like it will be awesome, 55min track, haha wow, that beats dream theaters 42min one =P
i have been putting albums like fear of a blank planet and the sky moves sideways on repeat for a good while now, new music is a good thing
cant wait to check it out
great album! the whole 55 minutes thing flows away very nicely!
Though, I think i like Fear of a Blank Planet better.. but maybe I need some more listens..
Going to see them live in Copenhagen the 18 of October!

This album is f**king brilliant! That's pretty much all I need to say at this time ;)
Heard it. Don't like it.
I'm going against the grain here, but I was hoping for something more along the lines of Deadwing. Nothing on The Incident jumps out and takes me like Deadwing did.
I'm not saying its a bad album, I'm just saying I don't like it.

+1. Fear of a Blank Planet is one of the greatest albums ever made but I have to give the new album a couple more runs before I can tell my opinion about it.

Same here, but simply because Fear Of A Blank Planet is one of my favorite album !
The Incident is really great, I like how it flows and how REALLY progressive it is. But FOAB have more "hooks" and "oh my god it's so good" moments

You will not be disappointed. It was seriously, over all, the best show I've ever been to. There so spot on when they play. It's ridiculous.

I'm kinda surprised how many people like FOABP. I mean yes, it's an amazing album. But, I like Lightbulb sun, Recordings, Deadwing, In Absentia, and The Incident, over FOABP.
I don't know. I find it so hard to rate anything Steven Wilson does. It's all so interesting. No matter what style it is.
His solo album Insurgents, his side project Blackfield, his Cover Version albums.
I never get tired of his stuff.
I seriously think he is one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century.
Oh, guys who have heard it: On "The Yellow Windows On The Evening Train" part. Is that a Mellotron the keyboardist is using to get the choir sounds?
It's so real sounding. When they did that part live it was so heavenly sounding.

I would guess it's a mellotron, at least on CD. But Richard Barbieri is a master at sampling, so maybe he just sampled every notes from the mellotron, into his live rig ?

Does anyone else think how Time Flies resembles Pink Floyd's Animals parts?

Some parts definetely remind me of Dogs (i.e. the beginning) some parts also Sheep. I had thought exactly the same thing anyway!

Well, I'm very disappointed with this album. We were told it would be a concept album, but INCIDENTALY the concept is that the 10th album is a Greatest Hits albums with songs which reminds stuff from previous album of PT. I still think that In Absentia and Fear of Blank Planet are their best efforts so far. Anyway, I'm going to see them on Friday ;-)

I have to agree here. For me Lightbulb Sun is their greatest. For me it is basically a blend of Stupid Dream and Deadwing (Of course LBS came out 5 years before Deadwing)
The Incident is the best since Deadwing imo
I saw them live (for the first time) yesterday in Copenhagen.. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!
They played the whole "the incident" album plus a selection of older stuff... The concert was great, they're all such great players/perfomers.. And moreover the sound was great: I was able to hear every single instrument so well... Dfinetely happy!!

Were you able to hear any keyboards? I think that their keyboard player (Richard Barbieri) is the weakest link in the band. Apart from some hammonds, you can't really feel that this band has a keyboard player on stage. All the gig he was busy clicking buttons on his laptop and using some samples and effects, but no real keyboard work.

Well, I was able to hear them because the sound quality/mix was very good. Then I think that it is a trademark of the band to have a keyboarder like Barbieri: he's definitely not a virtuoso, but with his spacey sounds and samples he adds a lot to the band sound and to the overall atmosphere imo. Maybe he is not a keyboarder in the "classic" meaning of the term; he's an atmosphere maker, Who also uses keys :-) ... Imo much better than some useless shredders!!
Of course you can argue against that, anyway I was referring more to the quality of the sound yesterday evening.

RemcoG, I completely disagree with you.

I also would tend to say that FoaBP is such a great album IMO, especially Anestethyze is a masterpiece.
Though, The Incident has been growing in me, and I am liking it more and more!

Anesthetize is an amazing masterpiece. Sheer brilliance. That and Sentimental are the two songs from FoaBP that really get me. But, the other songs are kinda lacking something (well on the album anyway). When they played Way Out of Here live it was freaking stunning. I think that song has to have the huge live sound, and the huge difference of dynamics, that you don't get on the CD.
