Hi all. Was simply wondering if DT recorded their albums using analogue or digital methods. i finally got my old turntable fixed and was browsing online for some worthwhile records to get and found BCSL and Systematic Choas available in vinyl format. If DT records their records in analogue format, then the vinyls are definitly worth getting. but if they are recording in digital format then using the digital data to make the pressings then there really isnt any point. so....anybody know????

I'd imagine it's all digital.

thing is, while watching the making of SC, i notice a great use of computers. but they are also using a ginormic mixing station and i dont see a screen infornt of the the mixer. thus i doubt they are using the mixer to control software or something. most of the more sofisticated studio record in analogue due to its higher quality over digital. still, im not sure.

Well, if they record digitally I'm sure it will be in high quality like 24/96, so the quality of that recording would be much higher than the 16/44.1 CD datastream making a vinyl record worthwhile.

As far as I know, Falling Into Infinity was the last DT album to be recorded to tape (I'm not not 100% on SFAM, but I assume it is, and I know everything since has been digital).
But I'd say 99% of albums are recorded digitally now. But as Bigs said, they're usually recorded at much higher quality than CD quality. It wouldn't make a huge difference for dumping it on vinyl anyway.

Yeah, i assumed that if it was digital that it would be at higher bitrate. alright, definitly getting them. i wish CDs never became mainstream, developers should have spent time finding ways to make vinyls last forever instead of making a weaker format. IMO atleast. Thanks all.

Yes. It's horrible that I can take all of my music wherever I go now and find any song I want to listen to in a couple of seconds. Those bastards!
