That was shocking.
Especially that second riff he played. He should be removed from youtube. Forcibly. What makes it all worse is that I can't find the "report this video" or "complain" button in an attempt to remove this video from the impressionable minds of pianists who want to learn this stuff who are now going to get it all wrong.
Austin McBride has been a jazz expert for 12 years
And surely "jazz expert" is a bit of an oxymoron in itself isn't it?
Well, the beginning wasn't too great, and it sort of petered out a bit at the end, and the less said about the middle the better, but apart from that - brilliant.

If he's from Expert Village, it fits with my slogan: "no wonder it's bad, it's Expert Village."

Look what I found. Seriously, people should stop trying to be people they're not... ¬_¬
Bio: Austin McBride has been doing Break Dancing for 4 years, featuring himself in about 6 clubs. He says break dancing is great for exercise and to impress friends.
I think this is meant as a spoof of the real Expert Village videos. It's just not funny enough to be sure

Haha I just found another one about 5/4 time.
He proceeds to play his own riff in 5/4 and counts 1 2 3 5 1 2 3 5...

Playing in 5/4? Playing a riff that's actually in 5/4 is usually a good start - a nice example would be Dave Brubeck's 'Take Five'

+1. it's a bit hard to demonstrate 5/4 whilst playing in 4/4... Take Five is a legendary piece. It should be used to demonstrate so much: meter, cool rhythms, awesome improvising etc.

another killer example would be the mission impossible theme.

The video rlainhart linked to above is obviously a spoof
of this one. At least with the above I'm sure it's meant
as a joke. With this I hope it was, but I fear it was not...

Yup. This is very, very sad.
It's such a shame that these so-called "experts" are allowed to post this trash, for the uninitiated to learn from.
I would be pissed if my kids were watching youtube and found this and thought that was the way it was supposed to be because it was on "expert village"
I feel compelled to submit REAL information about things like 5/4 time, 7/8 time, 11/16 time and such.
Jeez.
